Mouse house and great top floor cafe

Great view over the Amstel. We had a great meal here - one of the best in Amsterdam. The Asian-looking cook was very surly but we enjoyed looking around the place. There is an attractive desk made of cardboard box sheets over at the Music section - sustainable effort - very good!

This is a really great library, but, despite what I had read, the restaurant was just ok. It's kind of a station-concept restaurant, with different lines for grill, stir-fry, pizza, etc. There are no directions to explain exactly how it works and the cooking staff were surly and/or busy. I didn't find that there was a lot of selection... pizza,... More

I could live here. Every floor was a new vista of delight--music listening stations! Books in foreign languages! The wall of magazines and journals with lounge chairs! DO NOT MISS the Muizenhuis in the Children's Department downstairs, and be sure and to up to the top floor to the observation deck. The enormous cafeteria is great. AND there is Wi-Fi!

You don't need to speak Dutch to enjoy this library. There is a lot to see, from books, videos, cd's, but also the view and a good restaurant on the top.

We visited after several days touring Amsterdam for something different to the canals and museums. It's a lovely airy space with a piano on the ground floor which you can play if you are of a certain standard. When we were there the pianist was very good indeed and his music added to our general enjoyment. All the national newspapers... More

Seriously! Wind your way to the top floor of this ultra-modern, wonderfully designed library and eat at the wonderful restaurant up there. You pick whatever you want at the kitchen and they will prepare it to your specifications. Prices are very reasonable and there is a lot to choose from. On warm days, sit out on the patio for a... This free public library is beautifully laid out over several storeys which all look over the river. Apparently it cost €100 million, but WOW!, what a library.

I absolutely loved the layout and design of this library. This feels like a place where I can spend my entire day in as everything is so well laid out and the architecture is simple but elegant!

Nice, modern and neat. Good city view from the top floor. The library itself is very well-organised. It's worth to visit for sure.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
