Many people had talked about the view from the cafe but I thought it was just okay. The cafe food looked good but I didn't try it. I did try to use their computers for internet but it required a credit card and the machine did not like mine.

I advise everybody to take the trouble and go to the central library and avoid this place. I may look pretty, but the people that work here are a pain in the ss. Simply ask them a question and they treat you like you insult them, wake them from their slumber. I tried several times to print a document here,... More

There is a reason why a public library is ranked no. 5 on the "things to do in Amsterdam". Its a must visit. The children's area in the basement is one the most charming areas I have ever seen - if I was a child I would be delighted to visit this library. There is also a great store of... More

This definitely is not what you'd expect of a public library: it is huge, modern, spacious and filled with books, CDs, music. The view from the top, as everyone will mention, is quite spectacular. However, beyond that, what I liked most about this library is its location. It emanates a different vibe than the rest of Amsterdam and, for that... More

Very impressive library. The building is modern, and the views are amazing. There is a very good self service restaurant on the top floor, with a terrace with incredible views.

You may not think to visit a library while traveling -- I don't typically, either, but this one is a sight to behold. This is modern library and beautiful. The collection is large, and there's even a radio station that broadcasts from inside the library. There's a piano for playing downstairs (though a sign notes that it is for experienced... More

Very modern building with an excellent concept that makes you feel like hanging out at the library :) There are two restaurants in the building. Membership for kids is free.

I went here mostly to escape the rain and it was well worth it. I ended up staying for several hours, reading magazines and sitting in the cafe. There is a huge selection of music on one floor and the cafe terrace has fantastic views over Amsterdam.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
