I only had time to see the first few floors, but the first floor view is stunning! Love the modern, clean lines of the shelving, and an interesting feature on the second floor is the radio station.

You can go there and have a drink or lunch in the terrace on the upper floor. The view of Amsterdam form there is absolutely fantastic and you will spend a nice time. Don't loose the opportunity to have a moment there!.

If you live in Amsterdam this is a great place to visit for art exhibitions, the restaurant on the upper floor and the computer access but for tourists, it may not be worth an extra trip especially because it is a little out of the way from most tourist activities. If you do visit, take a quick stroll through the... More

You gotta give it to these Dutch architects: they really know how to build an inviting library. After visiting the Koolfhaas designed library in Seattle i quickly fell for this gem. Don´t forget to visit the rooftop café on the top floor - great city views!

Huge, beautiful library. The restaurant/cafe at the top has great food and snack options. I was able to grab a strawberry banana smoothie and chocolate chip cookie and sit out on the deck which has an amazing view of the water.

This has become our favorite "fast food" place in Amsterdam. The cafe on the top floor is wonderful - food, view from terrace and free wifi. Taking the escalator to the top floor you get amazing views of all the different floors. They have all sorts of seating and plug-ins so people can use their electronics on each floor. It... More

OBA became one of our highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. Modern, clean, organised and absolutely beautiful. You can seat and read any book you like, or you can have a nice coffe (or a meal) ate the restaurant at top of the building. Feel free, just go and make your visit at your way, just be shore that you'll... More

The central library is just a few blocks east of the central train station, and is worth a quick visit. It's free to enter, it's an interesting building, and there's a great view from the top-floor cafe (which is a good place for a coffee and a snack or a meal).

The mouse house in the basement of this building is a must see whether you're with children or not. We spent well over a half-hour checking it out. The library is only a short walk from the central station and there is no admission charge. It also has an excellent cafeteria on the top floor with terrific views of the... More

We went to the library largely to escape the sheer quantity of tourists in central Amsterdam; I am of course a tourist myself, but sometimes I simply want to get away from people like me :-D Anyway, the library is significantly away from the tourist routes. Technically, the library presented excellently with a huge book stock and was modern and... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
