The library is a fantastic example of simple and modern design. It is an inspiration in terms of public facilities and definitely worth a visit for anyone with a design eye while in Amsterdam. Go and enjoy the beautiful space and the tranquility. I also recommend taking the elevators to the top floor and enjoying the view off the top... More

Nice new modern building, interesting to go up through on the escalator to the viewing balcony at the very top. Good views (unless you are short!) and nice cafe on the top floor which we did not use but smelt good.

Just to the left of the main railway station as you come out is the main Central Library (Openbare Bibliotheek) A new modern spacious building with excellent facilities. On the top floor is a restaurant with excellent fresh food cooked why you wait. An excellent choice of meats salads etc all for a very good price. Then the views from... More

If you get a chance, go to the top on a sunny day and see the beautiful views it has across the city.

I came from a country where the libraries are commonly sad. Finding this library is like coming to a wonderland, even for those who doesn't like to read. The building has several floors with every floor has each awesome collection from records to books. It also has many comfy corner to read, focus on your laptop, or just sit back... More

Don't get me wrong, it is a lovely library, and if I was a citizen of Amsterdam I would love this place, but as a tourist I just don't get how it is ranked so high. (currently #3 attraction in the city) It is in a nice area near the main train station, and has beautiful views of the city,... More

This is a very nice library for those that want to get some reading in, but it shouldn't be a surprise that being able to read Dutch is definitely a plus. I would encourage anyone with a fascination for great libraries and literature to visit, but it's not a must see for the majority of people.

Stumbled upon library after an over priced dinner nearby. Architecture and easy flow to each floor, makes this a modern marvel. Not many books for English readers, but worth the trip. Seventh floor cafe is a treat, first time we enjoyed coffees and recently we had portion sized Chinese food, split able and made with very fresh ingredients. I wish... More

Architecture and Collection both phenomenal. Visited later in the evening after a full day of touring. Children's area was very impressive and interactive. Enjoyed our evening meal on the top floor which had an open deck to view the city - food was fresh prepared, wide selection, and reasonably priced. Not to be missed - something here for everyone to... More

This library is an anachronism in more ways that one. First, library's in general are anachronisms. But this version attempted to head-off inevitability by installing 500 internet terminals, only to have mobile tablets become a world standard, with which you have a personal internet terminal most everywhere that you are. Still, it is a large attractive modern building. And best... More
