We stumbled upon the library by mistake and thought it was really fabulous. With local people all using the library for different reasons we just wondered around taking it all in. There is a lovely cafe overlooking the river and a little exhibiton section with interesting pieces of art. I would have loved to use this library to study, very... More

This is a great library with a very large selection including mp music and places to sit and listen. There is also a huge number of internet terminals(used to be free)but still moderatly priced if you need a computer. The architecture is oustanding. I recommend going to the top floor for the great city view and restaurant. There is also... More

We loved spending some time here. It is a very beautiful building with wonderful seats looking through huge windows overlooking the water. An amazing place to go and relax. It has a cafe at the top too.

This is one of my favorite places in Amsterdam. In addition to comfy chairs and quiet places with outlets to catch up on work, there is a great cafeteria-style restaurant (La Place) on the top floor. When the weather is nice, you can eat on the terrace and get a great view of the city.

There's not much library in my country so when entering this library I thought at first it was a mall. They have various collections of books, videos, but I'm more attracted to the architecture and layouts. I wasn't here for long though.

If you're the kind that loves to visit libraries to sit and study, read, or write - this is the place for you! It's welcoming and open, and there are tons of places to sit by the window for a water-side view! I think I stayed for 3 or 4 hours just reading and enjoying the atmosphere!

beautiful library but we only went to use the restaurant on the top floor which has fantastic food at reasonable prices. Also has amazing viewing platform but it is closed November to march.

With 7 floors of books, audiovisuals, newspaper, magazines and wi-fi access, this is the best place to spend a few hours on a rainy day in Amsterdam.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
