5/5 for the volunteers looking after the stray cats but as a tourist attraction it's a bit rubbish. Make sure that you check the opening times and know where it is. We spent a lot of time asking bemused locals where the cat boat was!

If you are a friend of cats, this is a great place to go. It's on the Singel canal not far down from Centraal. Make sure to check their hours online before going. When I went hours were 1:00-3:00pm. As you might have noticed, Amsterdam has a lot of homeless 'canal cats' who live on catching rats along the canals.... More

The 'poezenboot' , the cat-boat is a floating cat shelter, open most days from 1 to 3 pm. They have cats living there permanently, welcoming visitors from all over the world and some adoptable moggies. Not many because the boat is a huge success and that makes it a happy place to visit. So, if you happen to be in... More

First time for me not feeling sad after visiting an animal shelter - the place is well maintained and most cats look quite contented there. Most cats are free to go around and even ouside the boat safely! Don't expect to hug the cats though as some don't like human touch. The two black cats are very friendly though. But... More

The boat is open from 1pm to 3 pm every day except Sunday and Wednesday. We had the misfortune to pop by on a Sunday only to find it was not open that day, but the friendly volunteers that were there cleaning the boat took pity on us and took us in for a quick visit. The boat currently houses... More

We were very curious to see this when we read that it was a house boat that was a refuge for cats, and that is exactly what it is. It took us a while to find it, but I'm glad that we did. They have a great many volunteers that work to keep this running. There are all types of... More

Fantastic!!! If you love cats, please visit the boat and support the great work which these people are doing. There are kitties everywhere, all shapes and sizes and colours. Some of them are friendly and will play with you, some of them are more timid and don't like to be touched - the staff will let you know which ones... More

The more you look, the more cats you see; in baskets, on shelves, in fluffy beds, looking out of windows. Not bothered by visitors. Happy living for cats now!! Not worth a special visit but I would stop by if passing and they were open as they are a good cause and are passionate about what they do.

I give 5 stars for the fabulous work which the boat is doing however I was slightly disappointed. As a huge cat lover, I expected to be able to go there and play with the cats and stroke them however as most are 'feral' types which are not used to human contact, this cannot be done as they will growl... This is a nice place to stop by and give a donation if you love cats and you're already nearby. Despite being a cat lover, I would skip this if there were other attractions unique to Amsterdam that I might miss. The cats seemed well cared for and the staff was friendly.
