My daughter and I took the Sandemans Amsterdam tour with Paul (from Scotland) on a beautiful sunny day! Thought it was going to be a boring walking tour and instead it was an interactive awesome story of Amsterdam. The history of the city, red light district, liberal laws, religion and architecture all make wonderful sense and came alive. We both... More

We did the walking tour in Amsterdam just like all other cities we went to during our Euro trip and it did not disappoint us! What I love about these tours is that instead of explaining the places of interest in a monotone and boring way, the tour leaders actually talk about the culture and cuisine of the city in... More

Did the tour yesterday with Kendra and she was absolutely incredible. Super friendly, entertaining, a wealth of knowledge and you can tell she's so passionate about this city and making sure people see the right parts of it!

A great way to see the city on arrival. Make sure you book on line.. Our hotel receptionist did it for me and although he had never heard of the tour he has decided to join one on my recommendation! I thought a group of 30 people would be too large but it worked quite well. The tour gives a... More

Mark was our guide on Sunday, good knowledge, clear voice and likeable personality. Well worth doing on your first day as you get a good overview of the layout of the city and what is and isn't worth doing. You pay these guides what you think the tour was worth at the end, as little or as much as you... More

If you go to Amsterdam thinking it's all weed cafés and Red Light District debauchery then you NEED to go on this tour. Paul, our guide who was from Scotland was interesting and energetic throughout despite the rain. We learned so much about the area's history and culture which is so much easier to absorb when your guide has a... More

My friend and I were in Amsterdam as part of our inter-railing trip and were looking for something cheap to do. The tour was great from beginning to end; easy to book online, easy to locate the starting point in the Dam Square, and free of course! The tour lasts about 3 hours however you do get to have a... I always try to start a trip to a new city with a walking tour so I can get my bearings and a sense of where everything is, and get an idea of the history of the city. Robbert was my guide and he was absolutely fantastic. In addition to the wealth of knowledge he provided, he was able to... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
