The Grote Kerk (Large Church) or Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk (Church of Our Lady) is in the centre of the old part of town. The church was originally a Catholic church turned Protestant in the 17th century, like so many churches in The Netherlands. The outside is impressive with a tall tower that can be seen from afar. The interior like all Protestant... More

The church has not only a great architecture, but it embeds so much history... every step you make inside the church is a journey in time, to unknown moments of glory, or sadness, or dispare.

I visited this church several times, last time during Cultural Night in Breda with beautifull performances and light shows, climbing the steps and watching the few over the city, the church bells during the day times are like music

One of the most beautiful gothic churches in The Netherlands. From the tower you have a very nice view over the city.

Living in the neighbourhood of this church since my early youth I never really took a look at this church. In the meantime I really admire this Gothic church with its rich history and very nice tower. Just splendid in nice surroundings.

The first thing I did in Breda, rent a classic bike at the train station and start cycling throughout the streets of the city in a beautiful and sunny day. I ended up in the historic center, after left the bike somewhere I ventured strolling around, impossible to miss it, this beautiful Gothic church with its height above the city,... More

Breda is the city wherefrom William of Orange spearheaded the resistance against Spanish rule in the late 16th century, setting off a century of religious turmoil in the Low Countries. This is a beautiful church in the best Brabant catholic tradition. It remained a catholic church until well into the 17th century, when it became protestant, a status later promptly... More

It's a nice church from the outside but the inside is less attractive. Going up to the tower is recommendable but check beforehand if it's open or not. They ask a voluntary fee to go inside and a fixed fee for going up.

This church is a beauty not only from the outside, but the inside as well, during the summer very nice and cool, cheap to take a trip all the way up the tower and have a great view of Breda, many royalties buried in the church. A place visiting worth

In the church is a small picture of Vincent van Gogh's father. There are several interesting sepulchres of a.o. Frederik van Renesse, Jan I and Jan II van Polanen and Engelbrecht I van Nassau. The church dates from 1116 ad built in Tuff stone from the Eiffel region.
