Nice church. But if you've seen one too many of these like I did, you wouldn't be able to fully enjoy it. Walk around within the walls instead, that is much superb.

First thing you notice is the heat coming from the 100s of candles a-light in "Our Lady" chapel as you enter. Who knew candles could put out so much light and heat? Inside the church is VERY dark and thickly hung with incense smoke. The windows are small and the glass is darkly coloured. The light was striking the south... More

What a magnificent church!!! A must for every visitor of Maastricht. You should try to visit it on a Sunday morning, during the ceremony. The atmosphere is wonderfful.

I've visited many churches and cathedrals, not because of being religious, but mainly because I'm interested in architecture, history and art. This church in Maastricht, however, has such a special, peaceful and mysterious atmosphere, that it kept me there longer than usual. I can't explain exactly why, but I really liked it, and I intend to go there again whenever... More

It was a bit dark and quite a lot of people there, but love the architecture inside. Definitely worth going to check for. Lots of nice cafes outside too.

We visited the Basilica after lunch on our visit to Maastricht. It has a very old-world feel to it, especially in the entrance, where you can donate some money to light a hand-made candle. The hall with the candles burning is a sight to see, and worth a visit if you have someone you might want to light a candle... More

I liked the architecture outside this church. It is well placed within the town square. I do agree with the other comment about it being a bit dark, but that is something that makes this place additionally unique. The areas that had light shining through, made it look just brilliant against the stained windows.

I've been there just around lunch time. That's certainly the darkest church I've ever seen, quite oppressive.

This is a church that is still in use, so respect is required when visiting (no photos?). Otherwise, it is gorgeous architecture with its own square. If you want a place for peaceful reflection in Maastricht, then this is it.

well worth the money to enter and the relics was so very interesting and the Cathedral is very breathtaking and there is a lot to see and take in the past history. Go and see for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
