the idea itself is very nice, wondering the caves, i was expecting more history but it was more into the idea of being in the underground and what would happen without light...the price is good 6 euros/adult, 1h tour

This was an amazing tour! We decided to walk from the centre of Maastricht (not the best idea) and discovered plenty of parking right at the caves after walking miles of uphills :) However, the tour was amazing. We had a guide who spoke English very well, and he really made us "feel" the history. He had lived in the... More

Loved this tour. We were in a group of 10 or 12 and our guide spoke great English as she took us through a centuries old limestone quarry. Don't go if you're claustrophobic because the caves aren't wired up or anything, they're only lit by the gas lamps the group carries and the caves sometimes require you to duck!

The tour of the caves is terrific! Big wide tunnels and guide with several lanterns makes it easy to see and walk! Fascinating to see and learn about history of the caves and the Dutch hiding the "Old Masters" paintings in the caves during the war. Our guide took us into the vault where they were hidden. Great tour in... More

To really really enjoy the caves travel there by boat. Its a great way to arrive and the boats are easy to find being right in the town and the trip was well worth it. There is quite a steep climb up to the caves entrance if you are not too nimble on your feet. An enterprising body could make... More

It was raining heavily all day in Maastricht so worked out for us touring the caves. We went on a saturday and missed cave + fort tour at 12.30pm. Then the only option we had was Cave tour at 2pm. Irrespective there is no english tour for fort. So we just roamed around the Fort... and we could see Maastricht... More

The tour in the cave was really interesting. We could choose between a Dutch or English tour guide. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. (And also quite cute). Bring a sweater as the temperature in the cave is only 10 degrees. Although you are allowed to take pictures, this is difficult as the cave is unlit. The only source... More

The caves in Maastricht are really worthwhile to visit. It is a labyrinth with a total length estimated more then 60 miles, originally build before sixteen century! However the guided tour was a disaster. As submitted by other visitors our guide was not willing or able to translate summaries in English or German language. We decided to visit the caves... More

If you like interesting art in unexpected places, this is an attraction for you. Though the guide did not speak in English, but she was nice enough to say the main subject topics in English, which was enough. The Castle on top is also a fun climb in good weather.

The caves are in fact a labyrinth of underground mines where local limestone was removed for building from the from Roman times. We had a fascinating hour and a half underground tour covering the history of the caves, which included being used to house priceless works art in WW2, and as a route for smuggling to and from Belgium.
