We had seen Schokland in a couple of travel videos, so we make it part of our exploration of Flevoland. From our home base in Bunschoten-Spakenburg, we made a day trip to Urk, Schokland, and Giethoorn, doing some geocaching along the way. Schokland was quite interesting--very understated but one gets the sense of it as a fishing village surrounded by... More

A pleasant enough place to spend an hour or two if you are nearby, but as Unesco world heritage sights go this one is pretty unremarkable. The film is interesting, but the museum is then redundant, as the story of the former island really doesn't take long to tell. If you already have the Netherlands Museumkaart and can visit for... Schokland is a mildly interesting preserve that features on UNESCO World Heritage list. The museum displays artifacts of ancient settlement as well as some more recent ones, there are also paths though the forest, and a tranquil if not remarkable geological garden.

The site is a good representation of the continue fight between Dutch population and the see, giving as well some interesting historical reasons. The short movie (available not only in Dutch, but also in English, German and French) guides the visitor through the time, from ice age to now. However, the ticket was a bit too expensive for the type... More

You have to know more of Hollands battle against the water and the reclaiming of land to appreciate this "bump in the landscape", but it is a worthwhile excursion seeing a former Island enclosed by newly reclaimed land and the museum hosts some interesting artefacts showing the prehistoric times as well. Hard to value if you don't know the story,... More

Schokland used to be an island until it became part of the "Noord-Oost Polder" - reclaimed land in the former Zuiderzee-. The history of the island is on display in this small museum. All items on display are well documented with texts in Dutch, Englsih and German. The items on diplay range from exhibits that show how the local used... More

Did not go in the museum, but took a walk around the area. Interesting information to read during the walk and the surroundings are beautiful. Nice for a short visit.

The museum was closed was closed when we were there but despite that we saw a nice attraction, because it is located just outside the museum(area). Museum Schokland newest attraction, put you head into the ship and with sound, smell, sight it look you are on the see. With this models the people of the former island did go on... More

Nice museum amongst the old houses of Schokland. You get to know much about Netherlands' centuries long fight with the water. The movie is available in many languages and very informative, I really liked it. The rest of the museum was also very interesting and I appreciated the art exhibition in the church. Overall a good experience, fairly priced tickets... More

Schokland is one of the few former islands in the former "Zuiderzee", the large sea inlet in the middle of The Netherlands. The association with the city of Enkhuizen (see subtitle of destination) is confusing, as Enkhuizen is on the mainland of the province of North Holland, and Schokland some 40km driving away from it. That said, Schokland is worth... More
