This wonderful museum has changed its venue - it was relocated to the new Toni Areal magnificent project. This place was once a dairy factory and now it hosts the entire art faculty of the Zurich univ. The design museum occupies the lower floor. The space is great. I visited the place on a Sunday so most of the building... More

Positive: - quality material for exhibitions - affordable entry fee - interesting location Negative: - lack of knowledge from front desk (unable to speak anything else than German) - lack of creativity... One would expect a more creative way of presenting 100 years of design than simply just piling up on a stage design objects from the same decade Generally... More

If - and only if - you are serious about design (and I pretty much am) is this museum worth spending an hour or 2, at least in its temporary incarnation in the building of the design school showcasing "100 Years of Swiss Design". Problem is, there really was very little in the way of specifically Swiss contributions to design.... More

This was my first time visiting this museum in it's temporary "New" location in Zurich-West, while the Ausstellungsstrasse location is being remodeled. Located in the Toni-Areal building, an arts education center, the museums latest exhibition is "100 Years of Swiss Design", a follow up to it's "100 Years of Swiss Graphic Design". The opening exhibition for this new location features... More

The Museum fur Gestaltung is now part of a complex. Firstly, we absolutely loved the building itself with its fresh way-finding signage, sweet cafe and open strip-backed design. The 'museum' was realistically an exhibition in a small (but brilliant) space - we came specifically to see this ('100 Years of Swiss Design'). Highly recommended - loved it (both the layout... Plan to spend about an hour or so at this exhibit. Swiss design is celebrated here. Everything from appliances to furniture to clocks and ski lifts. I was surprised to learn just how many things were designed by the Swiss. Museum is a few tram stops from the Viadukt shopping area and Markthalle --- a good way to round out... More

This museum has been moved to the newly renovated / rebuilt building of Zurich University of the Arts / ZHdK (This place used to belong to Toni Dairy, Swiss Dairy Food today, which is probably the biggest dairy company in Europe). Today this area, so called ZüriWest, became a centre of culture and high-technology (technopark). Also some major hotel chains... More

The museum has moved from where it is on the maps. It is now at Toni-Areal in Zurich West, a few tram stops from the old location. The permanent exhibition is extremely interesting.

I was hoping for a permanent exhibition of some sort in addition to the temporary works, but it seems that there's a couple of temporary exhibitions only and nothing else. I did enjoy these, especially the "Unterirdisch – Das Spektakel des Unsichtbaren" exhibition. The main reason I went was for "Weingart Typografie" which was underwhelming considering his work. In addition,... More

Whenever I'm in Zürich, I always make it a point to visit the Museum of Design. Their current exhibition "Japanese Poster Artists: Cherry Blossom and Asceticism" is fantastic one. The museum has put together a selection of over 130 posters dating from the 1950's to present day. As you might expect from this museum, the work has been displayed in... More
