Straight in the city centre, you reach this place in 10 min on foot from the Hauptbahnhof walking through the Heimatsmuseum gardens and the Spitzplatz park, where the Sihl river joins the Limmatt. There at the very tip take the bridge to the right and follow the Limmat's sidewalk, along the flow of the water on the right-hand side up... More

If you're visiting Zurich in the summer, you'll want to pack swimming gear. Many of the shops are closed for extended periods in July and August. Beside that simple fact, the Swiss are an active folk, and swimming is something they love. In Zurich you can always find people at Oberer Letten, behind the Landesmuseum a little down the Limmat.... In my opinion the attractiveness of this place depends a bit on what you want to do. However it is definitely a cool place to hang out with friends in the summer; there are volleyball courts, bars, places you can lie down to sunbath and of course there's the river. I always like to walk all the way up to... More

When summer gets really hot in Zurich (aropund 10 days a year), the Limmat is the wright place to cool down. A trendy Bar serves drinks and snacks - here meets young Zurich for a relaxing afterwork drink and swim.

It is a lot of fun to drift in the very clean (but mostly chilly) river. Usually it is quite crowded on a sunny day but that adds to the ambiance.

This river-fed swimming area (open for swimming only in summer, June-September) is one of the most trendy places in Zurich. Accordingly, it's often overcrowded, especially on weekends if the weather is fine. If possible, come here on a weekday of be early enough to catch one of the last places to sit down.

For someone who grew up at the beach, I find Letten a complete joke. There are far better places to go swimming in Zürich. Go to Greifensee or to the lake at Rapperswil, far far better. Letten is like a canal bordered by grey concrete walls on both sides and water flowing through it. Why in the world would locals... More

The Oberer Letten is a free public swimming place along a river canal. It's provides changing rooms, showers, and toilets and has on both sides of the river a little snackbar. On one side, there are two beach volleyball fields, too. On warm days, it is usually very crowded and a place to see and be seen. But beware -... More
