Contrary to my stereotype expectation that a national museum must reek of dusty, long-forgotten artifacts, this one let me spend three joyous hours among carefully chosen (also interactive) exhibits that were neatly organized, arranged in well-delineated thematic clusters, and almost invariably presented in four languages. I was actually more impressed by this museum's collections than I was by those housed... More

If you have a spare couple hours, this museum provides a very broad view of Swiss history and culture. And if the weather is a bit dodgy, it's one of the best places to duck into in the city.

the outside looks really nice but the exhibits are a bit of a letdown, in my opinion. also a bit annoying that most descriptions are not in English. They do have English info cards but these do not always tally with the exhibits.

This is a huge museum so if you are pressed for time, please decide the parts of museum you would like to see before starting. What I did not like is that there was no easy way of skipping parts since there is only one way through the exhibit. I enjoyed history of Swiss civilization, and the development of industries.... The museum has a lot of nice things to display, very good for those who are interested in an overview of Swiss culture and traditions. The architecture of the museum is very nice as well. Definitively a good place to visit during your stay in Zürich...

You're not allowed to pictures inside, so it's difficult to show how this compares to other museums. There is some exhibits that show the history of Switzerland, and I have to admit the most intersting part was the way they heated their homes

Inside the front desk is very poor serviced & the layout is a disaster,... More

A special Post Modern collection was at the national museum when I visited. What a set of interesting contrasts from the ancient classics to the special traveling exhibit. The museum is in a great spot in the center of the city right next to the main train station and the river.
