This place is like the US Smithsonian ....everything from pre-historic times to the development of Switzerland as a modern nation. Well laid out. Give yourself a few hours and more than one visit. This is a "must see" in Zurich.

There are quite a varied collection of items, but it was a rainy day and we needed to take some shelter, so the museum provided a nice refuge for 1-2 hours. It's worth a visit if you have the spare time

Pros: has something for everyone as it covers a wide array of topics (religious art, history, fashion, the economy, politics, archeology etc.), big enough to be worth its admission price. Cons: insufficient English descriptions for some exhibits, hard to navigate as it is not very well laid out.

We could have spent days in here. This museum has so much to see and is worth the visit. We really learned a great deal about Switzerland's long history. The only negative is that we wished there was more descriptions in English. This is a must for a history buff!

I spent a good deal of time here, more than I have at any other museum recently. It's very big with a lot of interesting things to see. There is something for every specific interest, fashion, furniture, politics, finances, ancient artifacts and more. For what you get for 10chf it's very good value for money and is also included with... More

When in Zurich you can hope that at least one day of your stay is rainy. You're lucky to have a reason to spend some time right behind the main railway station. One of the nicest national museums I have ever seen.

The artefacts on display are very interesting but this is a very adult orientated museum. It was a very pompous environment, ghostly quiet. Where many museums try and engage children this one fails. English translation boards are available in most rooms.

The Swiss National Museum (also known as the "Landesmuseum"), is just behind Zurich HB, very accessible, and very informative about the history of Zurich and what made it the city it is today. It is huge and took us about half a day to have a walkthrough, we had to speed through the last part of the museum as we... More

Swiss National Museum is just behind Zurich HB, if you have Swiss pass it is free and a must visit. Museum has 4 floors and it is more oriented towards swiss history. You need at least 2-3 hours to explore the museum.

I visited this museum when I had a day to kill by myself. It cost 10 franks and I was in there for 3 hours. I spent my time wandering through different parts of the museum and learnt a variety of things about Swiss history across many time frames. I left after 3 hours because I was quiet tired and... More
