Gorgeous building and wonderfully easy lay out made for a magical evening of opera. A bit Small compared to other European opera houses but still beautiful. Libretto was projected above the stage in both German and English.Sound/acoustics were excellent. The café at intermission was efficient and able to keep up with the steady stream of customers. Treat yourself to a... More

We went to Opera House on our second night in Zurich. It was a beautiful building on the outside. I was surprised how stark it was on the inside outside of the actual theatre. We weren't allowed into the theatre until about 5 minutes before the show. There was just about nothing to do or look at before entering the... More

The Barber of Seville was great. They had large screen with German and English translations which enhanced the opera experience greatly (especially since all the programs were in German only). Excellent performance and great singers. Theater is fantastic. No AC though thought having a hand-held fan may be a good idea. Theater is centrally located so very enjoyable.

Get tickets (on line in advance) and go! You will enjoy this architectural beauty regardless of the level of "innovation" in opera- just close your eyes if it's too much and listen...

The opera house ranks among the best in the world for good reason. The place itself is fairly small with excellent acoustics. The many productions I have seen were all of the highest quality. The singers are fantastic, often a nice mix of established and up-and-coming star, and a very sensitive orchestra operating over the whole dynamic range. The stage... More

This is typical classic opera house, not big so you will have good view from any place, perfect acoustic and ladies in evening dresses. You will also have a chance to go out to balconies to see fantastic view of city. One minor disadvantage to which I was not ready: they don't accept credit cards in the buffet.

The Opera house here is under renovation now and the festival does not start until November. Whatever said, Zurich Opera would only be a poor cousin of Vienna and certainly Salzburg.

We went to see Carmen at the weekend. We had slighty cheaper seats & they were better than the box we had last time! Not so cramped & we had a better view.
