It is quite a while since I experienced The Chocolate Train but the memory will be fixed in my mind for a long time yet. The train journey itself, is very pleasant and the views from the train leave you gasping in awe. Having a train trundling slowly through part of the length of a village main street, is quite... The whole tour felt like we were cattle being herded along... It wasn't the greatest experience. The tour of Chateau de Gruyeres was neat, but not as good as Chillon. There were little kids screeching on the train both directions which absolutely sucked since we were in first class and moving to second wasn't an option. We went in October... More

The cheese and chocolate factory visit was very informative and the samplings at the Caillier chocolate factory was very welcome! Some of the smoothest chocolates I have ever tasted. The chocolate train was decorated very beautifully in Victorian fabrics although it was overheated and we had to open the windows for some air. The lady bringing us around was very... More

If I could, I would do this every day of the week! The train ride was beautiful in a classic coach with a chocolate croissant and coffee to start the day. Cheese Factory and Cailler Chocolate both very informative and well presented. Gruyere village and castle a definite must!

Did the Chocolate Train tour last month whilst on holiday in Montreux. We got our holiday company rep to book it for us the day before (for no extra cost), but you can easily book it yourself at the train station, or on the internet before hand. We had a half price Swiss card, so the price was 69CHF (approx... More

If you don't want to pay extra for the structured tour, you can just buy train tickets (or use your railpass) on the local trains. They run generally every half hour between all destinations. Just get on any train from Montreux to Gruyères, you'll make one easy change on the way. Walk up the hill and visit the town. The... More

After reading several other reviews I was skeptical of this tour thinking it was going to be very structured, too much down time waiting on other tour participants etc. but we found it to be great. First of all, there is not really another way to connect in one day, on your own without a car, the cheese factory, the... More
