Walked about a mile on a path around the lake to get there which was a fun experience in itself. Usual castle stuff, didn't have a tour but had a pamphlet that showed where areas of interest were. Be sure and go downstairs to the old prison area.

I went there last weekend; and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the museum was. Visitors were shown a variety of old weapons and art work, and being allowed up into the castle towers and fortifications were a great way of seeing the fantastic views.

the castle was very interesting. many narrow passageways but worth the trip. the views of Lake Geneva were spectacular. An easy walk from most hotels. should get there early as it is a very popular attraction.

Built in the 1200's on a rocky outcropping at the edge of the lake, this castle is steeped in history and a "must see"! The audio tour is worth every franc, as it entertains and informs about many facets of castle life in the Middle Ages as well as castle residents. Allow at least 3 hours for a proper visit.... More

We stayed at the Montreux Palace and walked to the Castle. We left our bus passes at the hotel, but enjoyed walking along the board walk and visiting the castle. We did not go inside, but walked around outside.

Breathtaking views from within the 11th century walls and windows. The day we were there the weather was exceptionally perfect...75 degrees, crystal clear water, and perfect view of the still snow-capped Alps. We wanted to jump into the beautiful lake water below from one of the main hall windows! The chateau truly takes you back to a time when you... More

Very well kept castle neatly maintained. Much of the history is in German so English people may not get to know all history of it. Visited in 2012.

The Chillon Castle is free with the swiss pass. The castle is huge and you can just follow the pamphlet which you will receive at the entrance and walk around. We had taken the ferry to the castle and approaching the castle through the water was another beautiful experience. A must do if you are in Montreux.

The Chillon Castle is one of the listed to-do things in Montreux. While there are 3 ways to go(walk - 45 mins, bus- half hour and Ferry- 15 mins) I'd strongly recommend taking the ferry (called Vevey), since it's a beautiful passenger carrier, making you feel like royalty. The one thing we didn't appreciate was that you can get Audio... More
