Take the pleasant 30-minute walk (or the lake steamer) from Montreux to the Castle and then enjoy touring the castle. We were very impressed with the quality of the explanations. It gave us a very good understanding of how a medieval court lived and why. It was a chance to see more than historic battlements, but also entertaining rooms and... More

Great place to look around and a must see castle when you visit around Lake Leman. We always use audio guide when we visit these kind of castles or historical places and Chillon Castle's audio guide was just what we were expecting; many informative information and good to learn about Switzerland's history (mostly about Savoy family) and most of all... Perched on the side of Lac Leman creates a picturesque setting for the chateau which is in a remarkably well restored condition. Most of the rooms are furnished so you get a true sense of what it was originally like. By following the numbers and referring to the leaflet handed out when you buy your tickets the visit is simple.... More

Exceptional museum in that it is furnished. This makes it easier to visualize life there. Great beautiful setting on the lake. Large Castle with many rooms showing castle life over the centuries. Well maintained and marked for history buffs. Excellent friendly guides overall a memory not to be missed.

Simply the sense of history and how the chateau had changed over the centuries. The multi levels that the building has makes it difficult for disabled persons.

The Chateau was an intriguing site to visit, a historical castle with over a 1'000 years in the making sets on Lake Geneva. spans centuries in the making. The grounds are well kept with detailed information regarding its history, design, and legends of ownership. Wear comfortable sturdy walking shoes, lots of up and downs, stairs, cobblestones. Take a camera with... More

A wonderful castle, full of history. Well preserved, with an informative guide explaining its colourful past. Prepare for lots of staircases. You pay for the rooms and the grounds, the view is a bonus.

The castle can be accessed from a lakeside path through the city of Montreux. We parked at the top and walked down to the town and then followed the lake (about 60 minutes). You can get a train if the round-trip is too much. Extremely scenic walk and the weather in September was perfect.

After a day in Lausanne, we visited the Chateau de Chillon in the late afternoon in May 2013. The Chateau was closed by that time - but the grounds were open, and we wandered about taking our own photos of this much-photographed building in the glorious, golden light of the setting sun. Magic. Not to be missed if you are... More

I haven't toured many castles so not much to compare this one to, but it was quite interesting. The tour guide did a great job of explaining the different areas and brought the rooms alive with the history. There is some uphill walking and stairs. Be sure to check out the secret passage!
