My husband and I enjoyed our visit to this wonderful castle steeped in history. A cool choice on a hot summer's day in Montreux. Allow yourself at least 2 hours to visit all the rooms and areas of interest, over 40 in total. Beautifully preserved olde worlde Chateaux with a prison and natural moat. You really get a feel for... This is an interesting castle on the lake Geneva (also called lac Leman) which once played an important role as a gateway to Italy. Lord Byron visited the Castle and was so moved by the story of Francois Bonivard who was emprisoned in the castle for 6 years (1530-1536) that he wrote his famous poem "the prisoner of Chillon".

We have been fortunate to have seen many castles and chateaus, but this one was one of the best so far. Detailed explanations (in English as well), beautifully restored chateau, steeped in history, not used as a modern art gallery/commercial space to capitalize on and large enough to take at least 2 hours to walk through it is definitely worth... This has to be one of the best castles we've seen. Bought audio guide. Takes about 1 1/2 hours. Worth a visit. Great museum shop too!

With a six year old, we didn't plan on spending long here, but there was enough to keep us interested here for the best part of 2 hours. The castle setting is picturesque, and the views across the lake equally so. There is plenty of information on the free brochure which makes the audio guide unnecessary. We went there in... More

Chateau de Chillon provides a peak into the medieval times. When life was rough & tough and might had a lot do with your survival. Well maintained & easily accessible from Montreux where we had been attending the Montreau Jazz Festival, this jewel was an icing on the cake. Magnificient views out to the lake& beyond, especially if its sunny... More

We went to the castle around 5pm and it was perfect.. The views were spectacular from where you could see the whole of Montreux. And the castle is huge.. Takes you about 1.5-2 hours to see it. Must visit when in Montreux.

Excellent way to spend few hours strolling trough halls and passages of this impressive fortress. Allocate at least 1.5 hours for the whole tour. The tour route is organized very well and allows you to visit every corner of the castle - just pay attention on the numbers and don't cut the corners.
