A stunning chateau

A good ½ a day trip to this stunning chateau, well worth it. Easy to get to on the bus just on the outskirts of Montreux.

The castle is a must see if you are in the Montreux area, it is so well preserved and is a cornucopia of history and artifacts. Do not just pop in, its a huge place and every room is worth seeing. Highly recomended. It left me very soulful and in many ways at peace.

Rising from Lake Geneva, the Chateau du Chillon is a labyrinth of a traditional castle, complete with dungeon, towers, hall, ramparts and a myriad of other chambers. The views of the lake were stunning and I especially recommend approaching by boat from Montreux.

The chateau is steeped in history, each room tells a story and a different period in history. It has been lovingly restored over the years. The best views of the lake are from the top windows - but there are many small steps to get there, so maybe not so appropriate for small children (not buggy friendly) - I held... More

This castle is home to some great history and spectacular views. Take your time and follow the self guided tour (we used a walking tour provided in Rick Steve's Switzerland book). Make sure to climb the narrow stairs to the 8th story tower for different views of the city and surroundings. We got in for free with the Swiss Pass... More

Set in a magnificent place, on the shores of lake Leman, the castle is friendly enough to let you visit almost all of its "secrets": prisons, torture chambers, bedrooms, dining rooms, storage rooms, and many many more.

Absolute must do when in Montreux. Ensure you take the audio guide...totally worth it! Also do make your way to the Keep tower top for the magnificent views! If can make it around sunset time go along the side path outside to get nice views of the Chateau as the sun sets...totally breathtaking!

Nice casle, heaps of history, heritage and atmosphere. A must see in this region. A wonderful mix of centuries old history and multimedia displays.

We really enjoyed visiting this site and seeing a superb piece of history from as far back as 1000 years. Although the chateau was reconstructed several times you can still feel like you are back in time. Some of the rooms have period furniture and give you a glimpse of the life back in those times. The setting is superb... More
