Do not miss taking the cable car to the top. It is amazing to say the least. Beware of the altitude change. It hit us quickly so be sure to hydrate and avoid caffeine. We had lunch in the cafeteria restaurant on top. The food was adequate and we were happy to have something to eat in such a spectacular... More

Iconic peak seen from most places in Zermatt. One can take a train for a price to have a closer look at it.

matterhorn is one of the most beautiful mountain i have ever seen. the view from the lake and its shadow in the lake is worth seeing. you can take mountain train from gornergrat. stop over at rotenboden and do a little trek to lake riffelsee . the view is worth watching. you will love matterhorns reflection in the lake.

Good visit, and nice view from Zermatt and using the gornegratt bahn train. The st. Bernard dog is not in the mountain when I was there, they leave early. Shops are also closing early, even before 5pm. Therefore we were quite stranded there at the top of the mountain for almost an hour.

The Matterhorn is the icon of Zermatt, although it is not the highest mountain. However its iconic tower like summit and its associated hump like plateau gives Zermatt its real icon. By the way it is also the icon of the chocolate Tobelrone. Whether you see it from Gornergratbahn, or Mattehorn Paradise or even from Zermatt itself it is breathtaking.

Pretty ridiculous to be reviewing a mountain. That said, it's very mountainous, it has a terrific story to its first ascent, and it does a great job inspiring you when you look at it.

Yep. If you are lucky enough to get a clear day, its amazing! Take the train to Gornergrat and hike around. Take plenty of water and be patient. The view is worth the wait.

You have to experience the gondola ride, its really impressive. The frequency of the gondola is very close so you don't have to clamp with others. Take the ride up the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise which is 12,739ft above sea level, however, some may feel dizzy and breathless if you stay up there for too long (this is normal). Depending on... The Matterhorn is so huge and visible from countless lifts and viewpoints surrounding it, but my absolute favorite vantage of it was from the trail up to the Hornlihutte at the base of the Matterhorn. This hut is the last hut on the way to the peak that is accessible without technical climbing skills. We didn't hike all the way... More
