Really enjoyable way to get into the mountains around Zermatt with great views throughout the journey to the peak of Gornergrat. Good value for money, particularly if you have a 'Swiss Pass' rail ticket which provides you with a 50% discount.

This cog railway is a must when staying in Zermatt. It is great for accessing walks in the mountains, and there are many stops on the way up (and down) to access different areas. The views are wonderful, and we also saw ibex and marmots, and a huge variety of wild flowers. There is a restaurant, hotel and shop at... More

This place is simply awesome!! Me and my wife loved it as it is less crowded compared to other Swiss attractions. The lovely town of Zermatt is a car free town and is just beautiful (words cannot describe this place). The cog wheel journey takes about 33mins one way and is at regular intervals throughout the day. The views of... More

Take the short train ride from Zermatt to the Gornergrat station and you'll be treated to great views of the Matterhorn, numerous glaciers, and if you're lucky, you may see a few ibex. Dine in the restaurant and be sure to order the Rosti with veal sausage. This is the reason why you've come to Zermatt!

The railway trip up the mountain is an experienced not to be missed !The train leaves the base station from Zermatt every 20 minutes ( at least during summer),so,you can just stop by to buy tickets and will be on a carriage ride without too much waiting .Swiss cards/half price cards will get a discount . I rode all the... More

Hiked up to one of the mid stations, train up the rest of the way and back down Great views from the top Looks like brilliant way to get a mountain bike up, to ride back down Nearly won our prize for most expensive coke in Switzerland: take a picnic! Swiss cards / half price cards work fine

It's a cog railway to the Gornergrat. Go only if the weather is clear.... but if the forecast is favorable... go. At the top are a hotel, an observatory, a fine viewing deck and a small shopping mall. Go for the view. Unless you are a mountaineer, you will find the view at the top difficult to replicate, much less... More

Well worth the trip. The destination is fantastic, but the journey is very scenic. Go early to get a good seat as it does get pretty crowded pretty quickly. We waited for one train to depart and took the next so we were able to get good seats, and still found many people scrambling for seats.

The Gornegrat Bahn was expensive but it was a trip that you almost feel compelled to make. Gornegrat isone of the reasons that people come to Zermatt.... where else can you take a train to a mountain above an alpine glacier? The train trip up was awesome - every curve along the route opened a brand new mountain vista and... More
