Get off at Rotenboden station instead of Gornergrat. From Rotenboden station the view of Matterhorn is much better and hiking trail is easier. If you are adventurous enough you can walk all the way to a new Monte Rosa hut (you'll need hiking stick and crampons to walk on flat glacier). Total time to get to the hut is 3-4... More

The cost of a round trip ticket was rather breathtaking for the relatively short ride, but the scenery is spectacular. We ended up hiking much of the way down, and had we known how doable it is, we would have hiked up and down to save the fare. No matter how you get there, a trip to the top is... More

Breathtaking views, and if you're not careful, the thin oxygen makes one feel "breathless" as well! Taking the train to the observation level was a great way for us to get the best possible views in the least amount of time. We had one day and needed to make a choice as to how we were going to view The... More

The Gornergrat trip is organized wonderfully. The station is exactly oposite of the main train station. So, even if you are visiting Zermatt just for one day is excellent opportunity to catch the Gornergrat train, go and come back. And you will have time to walk aroud the village too. The price is 84 CHF for an adult return. The... More

Quick and easy way to get to some spectacular views and the service runs frequently. Once on the high mountain here are opportunities to get off and walk although be warned that this is at altitude and some of the paths are steep and not for the feint hearted, however if you can it is really wirth the effort. What... More

The funicular railway from Zermatt to Gornergrat is breathtaking. Spectacular waterfalls, impressive glaciers, scenery that is quite stunning and the odd marmot as well. Sadly we chose the wrong day and our view of the Matterhorn was the picture on the board at the viewing platform and fog everywhere around us. On a clear day I imagine it would be... More

this train takes you up to the Gorner glacier in just a few minutes. It makes stops along the way thus giving you an option to get off and hike to the next stop to enjoy/explore the scenery and then take the train again to continue to your destination (Gorner glacier or Zermatt). Note that the train makes about 6... More

This train seems to climb forever as it twists and turns its way from Zermatt to the Gornergrat offering wonderful views around every bend. With large windows you can easily see out both sides at least in the summer when it is not so busy.

The train up to see the Matterhorn is breathtaking. The hike down to the next level and restaurant is well worth it but steep
