Gornergrat puts a salt lick or something at the top so it attracts Ibex (I think that's what they're called). We got lucky and one was there having a few tastes. This was a great day, such a fantastic view, and seeing the Ibex was the cherry on top!

A fascinating train ride up through the woods and meadows, with lots of wild flowers, to the top with great views both long to the wider mountains and closer to the glaciers. Well worth taking the time to do

My family of four (49,47,19,17 yrs old) took the Gornergrat Bahn to the top of Gornergrat and hiked down. We had a tough day but a great day. It was unseasonably hot for Zermatt (25C;82F) but the top of the mountain was cooler. The hike from the top is VERY long and is very steep. You are hiking down a... More

Be sure to sit on the right-hand side for the trip to the top--you'll be rewarded with fabulous views. There's a restaurant/cafeteria at the summit with a patio, also a small chapel. In the early morning, the Matterhorn is least likely to be covered in clouds; TV screens at the station in town show the visibility. You can hike sections... More

Very easy railway journey to the Gornergrat. You can either take your skis and or snowboard with you and then ski down or your walking boots and have a look around and catch the train back down. Excellent views, punctual and clean trains.

The railway takes you up the Gornergrat from where there are uninterrupted views of almost 30 peaks with a height of over 4000 metres including the famous Matterhorn. After taking in the views and avoiding folk taking 'selfies' we took the Mark Twain Weg walking route for part of the way down. The path is challenging in places but we... More

HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this train ride for the best view of the Matterhorn! The train ride is exquisite. Make sure to sit on the right side of the train on the way up. Everything in Zermatt is expensive. To save 20+Euro, you can take the train after 3:00PM. Buy the ticket on the Eurorail if you are training into Zermatt.... More

We were on a tour and this was our day in Zermatt and our only chance to possibly go see the Matterhorn. It was partly cloudy in Zermatt when we left on the train up. The ride was pretty and fun. Get a set on the right side up because there is a lot more picture opportunities. You can get... More

Very nice train ride from Zermatt to the Gornergrat which takes about 35 Minutes and gives you one of the best views of all the 4000m mountains surrounding Zermatt. It can get very busy on a sunny day during summer or winter but is still worthwhile the wait in the restaurant on the top for a small meals or drinks.... More

Discount option after midday was our choice. First thought not to spend the money as we do not ski but should not be missed. Unforgettable experience. Opportunity to do the snow walk but give yourself plenty of time, make sure you get good advise and carry water. Walking at this altitude is hard work.
