Sunnegga is a most wonderful place. Surrounded by many peaks and great view of Mattehorn. The best part is actually to get the lift to Sunnegga, change there and go straight to Blauherd. Than, you walk back (down) to Sunnega. This is the most picturesque walk around the 5 lakes. Crystal clear waters, perfect for a nice swim in a... More

The funicular up to Sunnegga Paradise is quite interesting. We had no idea that the entire thing was inside the mountain. Neat, but also a bit strange bc, well, no view. We went up to Blauherd by Gondola and went off to the 5 Lakes hike (5-Seenweg). It was nice, but it wasn't spectacular. This might be because the Matterhorn... More

this was one lift short of Rothorn. The higher you go the more impressive it became. Your at 7506 ft and going higher to Rothorn.

My 15 year old son and I especially enjoyed the 3-4 hour hike of Five Lakes (even though we "found" only 2-3 of the lakes). The sky was clear and the views were phenomenal! We arrived in Zermatt at 2pm, found our room quickly, ate and were at the funicular station in downtown by 3pm. We had no idea that... More

We took the Sunnegga train which runs inside of the mountain to go to the 2270m Sunnegga station. It was a nice experience although quite costly (16 CHF per person for a single ride from Zermatt village about 600m uphill).

I have been hiking from Zermatt to Sunnegga and back. Trail was easy and it took approx 2.30 hours in one direction. I decided for a roundtrip: uphill through the village Findeln and downhill close to Tufteren (Eurotrail). I was amazed by the village Findeln which looked very attractive. Unfortunately the trail towards Tufteren is closed due to the falling... More

Take the gondola to Blauherd. From here I recommend the walk to Stellisee and Stellisalp. Use the mountain footpath, instead of the wide gravel track used by mountain bikers to avoid these people who are for the most part reckless and inconsiderate scum. Stellisee and Stellisalp have the finest views of the Matterhorn.

This train ride takes you literally through the mountain - I have never done anything quite like it before! This is one way to access the skiable terrain in the winter, but in the summer it's a great activity that drops you off at a great spot to take a hike. You do need to buy tickets to take the... More

The funicular ride is great for a quick transition to the higher Alps. Great walking around the area and beyond. Good value.

It was a very sunny day when we took the rail for an unobstructed view of the Mattahorn and the surrounding glaciers. Took some fantastic pictures. There is a café where you can sit and have a bite to eat and view the mountain. You can hike paths back down to the town below. If you do not have a... More
