I have been hiking from Zermatt to Sunnegga and back. Trail was easy and it took approx 2.30 hours in one direction. I decided for a roundtrip: uphill through the village Findeln and downhill close to Tufteren (Eurotrail). I was amazed by the village Findeln which looked very attractive. Unfortunately the trail towards Tufteren is closed due to the falling... More

Take the gondola to Blauherd. From here I recommend the walk to Stellisee and Stellisalp. Use the mountain footpath, instead of the wide gravel track used by mountain bikers to avoid these people who are for the most part reckless and inconsiderate scum. Stellisee and Stellisalp have the finest views of the Matterhorn.

This train ride takes you literally through the mountain - I have never done anything quite like it before! This is one way to access the skiable terrain in the winter, but in the summer it's a great activity that drops you off at a great spot to take a hike. You do need to buy tickets to take the... More

The funicular ride is great for a quick transition to the higher Alps. Great walking around the area and beyond. Good value.

It was a very sunny day when we took the rail for an unobstructed view of the Mattahorn and the surrounding glaciers. Took some fantastic pictures. There is a café where you can sit and have a bite to eat and view the mountain. You can hike paths back down to the town below. If you do not have a... More

The kids park at Sunnega was such a pleasant surprise. It was not there on my previous trip, so it is something new(er) My son really appreciated the park as well as the Marmot Trail that starts at Sunnega

We hiked from Blauherd to Sunnega, and a little bit further down, but had to return to Sunnega due to weather. Beautiful area with up and down hiking. Saw goats and sheep too. Nice reflecting lakes make for excellent pics.

The Sunnegga is an underground cog railway that comes out of Zermatt and takes you up high on the hills. From there, you can walk out of the station and see the Matterhorn with an unobstructed view. There is a cafe at the top along with toilets. A great thing to do is to ride up and hike back down... More

Sunnega is a holiday reps dream. Whatever your interest in the mountains you can indulge them here. It is the end of a training run from Zermatt to ascertain your fitness to tackle the Matterhorn. It is the start/finish for walks of all standards, from a leisurely stroll round the lake, through many routes to and from the valley of... More

The train from Zermatt to Sunnegga goes underground and is very quick (about 4 minutes). The cable car to Rothorn is currently not in operation, so we have hiked up from Sunnegga to Blauherd (about 1 hour going up) and from there took the beautiful trip to the five lakes, stopping at Fluhalp for lunch. The views are stunning throughout.... More
