The paradise for families. From Zermatt, you reach Sunnegga (2,288 m. above sea level) in only 4.5 minutes with the underground funicular. At Leisee lake, families can enjoy an adventure playground with attractive barbecue areas. Take a refreshing dip in the lake, or play Robinson Crusoe as you cross the water on a wooden raft attached to a cable that spans the lake. Off to the land of adventure!

Nice place to enjoy the lakes and hiking

The tram ride was quick and easy. Once you get up there you will find yourself in a totally different place. Nice lakes around and great hiking trails.

Took the furnicular to Sunnega. Less than 5 minutes later you exit at Sunnega. What a view! Easily the best of the Matterhorn that I have ever seen. Open, clear skies, beautiful mountain. I can rave about this for a long time. I wish every person could see this once in their lifetime. Too good to miss. Even better than... More

Beautiful walk - 5 lakes, out of this world and so easy to do - amazing technology train through cliff and then stunning scenery! Paths well signed and a choice of lengths. Really pleased we chose this

Agree with the other positive reviews--just very neat to take a funicular from the center of the city, through the mountain, and come out to a gorgeous view! Classic views of the Matterhorn, plus spares you a couple hour hike of getting to the 5-Lakes Trail, which is one of the best in the area (well, they're ALL great-let's admit... More

Another great sight from the top. Many photo opportunities and if you get the chance to take a kick bike down the mountain - do it! They are like fat wheeled scooters and the smell of the pine trees in the sun reminds you of a sauna. Very relaxing. They are quick but luckily the brakes are good! A great... More

We recently used the Sunnegga Funicular for a trip to Rothorn. This lift takes you through the mountain to the top of the hill where there is a lift stations to continue on and a restaurant is you wish to stop and admire the views. From there we took the cable car to Blauherd and then onto Rothorn. The entrance... More

Rick Steves suggests that taking the funicular from Zermatt to the Sunnegga station is the cheapest way to get a really fantastic view of the Matterhorn. I agree. The roundtrip costs 24 SF. There are at least 3 major lifts to "Matterhorn viewpoints." Many cost 75 SF or more roundtrip. Also, it's very easy to get from the train station... More

It was a very nice walk that brought us city dwellers to 5 beautiful lakes in the Alps. Depending on your preference, you may choose to go uphill or downhill. The gradient is not steep so going downhill will be a bit easier. We however chose to go uphill, just to do some exercise. :) Our route was Sunnegga >... More

Riding the funicular to view the Matterhorn on a sunny day is a memorable experience. I sat in the very back going up and it's the front going back down. Though you do have to stand up and hold on there. You can look out the window where you are going or where you have been. A giant tube through... More
