Besides the spacious cable car, adventurous and well-maintained hiking trails lead you up to the summit on 3,103 m.a.s.l. On the top, you enjoy a breathtaking view over the surrounding peaks, with a lot of them reaching above 4,000 metres. The "Peak collection" exhibition helps you find the most stunning summits. « less

Started from Zermatt on our first day there. After a bit of a struggle finding the trail head for the Diretissima, we headed up to TuftenAlp and had great views of the Matterhorn the entire way. From Tuftenalp we took the Gamweg (you lose the view of the Matterhorn on that trail) and ascended to Rothorn. Getting to the saddle... More

we saw the glacier and the Matterhorn from Rothorn. It was fun getting there via cogwheel train and two lifts. It would have been a very interesting place to walk down from but we were not prepared to do that. People took there bikes up to ride down and their dogs for the walk down. Wish i had more time.... An amazing place to see many higher peaks of the Alps but pointless if poor weather. A great place to start several beautiful walks from, both up and down. However, beware it may be very cold and wind even if warm and calm in the valley.

Visit for the view in good weather. Walks not to be considered if there is snow and ice on the ground unless equipped with ice axe and crampons. Cable car service is not as convenient as those places which are served by gondolas.

Starting point to the highest hiking trail in Europe and the views you get are something to remember... I also had a delicious soup at the Rothorn restaurant at the end of the hike, which I will remember for a while as it was super delicious.

We have visited Rothorn in the past and found the views of the Matterhorn and surrounding peaks marvellous. Unfortunately on our recent visit,June 18th - June 28th the cable car was not open for business. It may be worthwhile considering this when planning a visit to this area. All the high lifts may not be running early in the season

love the place, good food but super slow. Be sure to not be in a hurry because its going to be a long lunch. But the food is great and worth the wait and the view is also awesome

Great for skiing, so many different pistes and tele cabins, chairlifts! Wonderful snow conditions, sunny on south side, less people on north side.

A wonderful area reached via the Sunnega train, Blauherd chair/gondola and then the cable car up to Rothorn. Well worth the 3 lift start as the skiing is fabulous when you get to the top. You can find yourself as the only skier on some runs and it's worth stopping to appreciate the silence of the mountains before someone else... More
