We took the BAT boat from Lugano Centrale to Gandria and walked back, following the route in the posted direction (see a map, bring a map). Let's be clear here - it's a HIKING trail. Don't try to take your kids on it, unless they can HIKE. (It's not a difficult trail, though - fit kids with hiking experience would... More

Very easy and enjoyable walk. We pushed a stroller (there are some steps in a few places so we had to carry it) and our 9yo and 11yo were able to walk the entire route from City center out to Gandria and back. Took just over 3 hours at a leisurely pace. Great views and perfect for a Sunday morning... More

It can be a bit demanding in places so not best suited if you have problems with step steeps and inclines.

We had an excellent couple of hours doing the walk from Lugano and took the boat back. Starting in Lugano we walked through the lanes with the antique bric-a-brac stalls. Then through the Parco Civico. Cross over the bridge across the canal. Turn right and go by the side of the road, by the lake up a small hill. You... More

The antique Oliven-footpath in Lugano-Castagnola to Gandria begins in the antique nucleo of Castagnola at paneel nr. 18. Castagnola is the most exclusive quarter of Lugano near the lake at foot of Monte Brè (the sunniest mountain of Switzerland) and reachable by bus nr. 2 at Post office of Castagnola or by ship at Museum Villa Heleneum. It is a... More

Stay in the Moosmann hotel in Gandria, and after a great lakeside breakfast, stretch your legs on the long meandering walk into Lugano. (our 4yr old managed it without issue!) There is also a great hotel for a coffee-stop half way! beautiful

This beautiful forested trail hugs the shore of Lake Lugano, meandering through small hamlets. Along the way, there are interpretive signs that describe the history and cultivation of olives (you will see some - they were still small and green in early July). You'll see fig trees and interesting geological features as well. The highlight for me was Gandria, where... More

We asked several locals and walked for miles looking for this path described as a gentle 3k walk. We ended up meandering through private neighborhoods, steep stairs and even a museum! There were a couple signs - but they led no where.

This walk hugs Lake Lugano and, as such, has some beautiful views. It's really not much of a trail, though. There are signs about olives, but that's the only thing that'd let you know it was an "Olive Trail". Still, there are excellent restaurants along the walk with dynamite views of the lake, plus there is a free public beach... More
