We took the Bernina Express train from Tirano to St. Moritz, Switzerland. It is a very upmarket town with interesting building, superb shops and, of course, the wonderful lake. On disembarking from the train we walked to the town square and enjoyed window shopping in the designer shops. We passed the Palace Hotel with its long black Rolls Royce cars... More

I got to run through the woods on an August afternoon from the Youth Hostel and I found this lake unexpectedly. I took off my shirt and sneakers, and began to swim. The natural setting is wonderful, very green and peaceful. Between the lodge and the lake there is a track that can be reached by bicycle, but it is... More

The lake was still frozen when we visited but there was nothing to indicate that it is a lake. Anyone could have stepped on the lake unknowingly thinking it to be ice/snow on a ground and since the ice in some parts had become thin because of the rising temperature in middle of April, it could have proved fatal as... Take the Palace hotel elevators or the great lift down and then a leisurely walk in a half circle around the lake. Most uplifting.

We visited St. Moritz via the Bernina Express which was a breathtaking journey with magnificent views. We sat down by the lake next to the Station and had our lunch. It was a beautiful sunny day and yet the lake was still frozen in parts which was surreal as we were in t-shirts. We spent some time walking along the... More

Walking around the lake in winter (January) was peaceful with nice views of the mountains and town. It was easily accessible from the train station. After looking at online pictures of the lake, I think it's more beautiful in the summer.

We visited St Moritz after travelling on the Bernina Express from Chievaso to Bernina Diavolezza on a day trip organised by Inghams whilst we stayed in Menaggio. The Lake is a beautiful lake next to the Station, used for water sports in the summer and in winter once frozen for horse racing and showjumping as well as skating. We wanted... More

Lej da Staz is on the way (walking) from St. Moritz to Pontresina or Celerina. It is simply a lovely and quiet place. Weather permitting, there is swimming possible.

We took a horse carriage ride near this lake and the views of the meadows, trees, mountains and lake were amazing. There is a restaurant there called Restorant Lej da Staz that has the best home-made vanilla ice cream I have ever had anywhere.
