You can see it from the top of Europe at the Jungfraujoch, going up by train but the best view is from the Riederalp/Bettmeralp. Its a bit of walking with decent walking shoes and normal equipment (no ropes) but the bill gets paid and is worth it when you arrive at the top and look down at the glacier. More

As glaiciers go Aletsch is huge. We stayed in Brig and took the cable car up to Riederalp. There are miles of trails up in the area. You could also go up to Bettmeralp. I would give yourself at least 3 hours (could be a full day) and bring a pack with supplies inluding water. Things were very quiet when... More

The best place to see this is on top of Jungfrau. It is a long Glacier that stretches through the Alps. From Jungfrau you can actually Zip line onto it. You can, if you have the time, walk about the edge of it or snow tube on the edge. More

The amazing view from the trains on the way to "Top of Europe" is breathtaking. The bed of snow on the roof top of houses, young and old people busy skiing is all very pleasant. However, the journey itself to reach the top of Europe is quite long, more than 3 hrs from interlaken and it was even more for... More

Wow! What an amazing view, looking down onto snowy mountain tops and hand feeding the 3 black birds that circled us. This is a must do and is well worth a day of your holiday. We had a lovely sunny day so had picture perfect views and I could easily have sat out on the view points for hours had... More

My wife and I took the train to Jungfraujoch Top of Europe in Sept 2011, It was a must do experience and worth the time and money. The views on the way up are awsome and views from the top were over the top. We did not take a "tour" but traveled on our on with no probelms but did... More

This is an absolute must if you go to Switzerland. It takes a whole day for the experience. We left from Zurich for the trip at 10:00 a.m. and returned around 7:00 p.m. The reason for the time is that when you start heading up in the Alps you switch to a Cograil type train which is slower. They call... More

I would recommend our 'unplanned' route, which gave us a memorable day and enabled us to enjoy the magnificent views that this glacier has to offer. In Betten buy a single ticket (we bought return!) for the cable cars, which take you initially to Bettmeralp and then on to Bettmerhorn. We joined the Gletscherweg just behind the cable car station... More

The view of the Aletsch glacier from jungfraujoch is nice. The two day hike down the glacier some people describe sounds wonderful - the weather was too cold and windy the day we were there, and I suspect we are too out of shape and old. However, we were able to do the 10 mile hike from Fiescheralp up along... More

We climbed the Eggishorn (with some cablecar help) from Fiesch, and the up close views of the lower parts of the glacier from there were awe inspiring - much more so than from Jungfrau where we went a few days later. Jungfrau has several other views as well, but is packed with tourists, unlike the Eggishorn. The walk down from... More
