Our family really enjoyed our hike out to the lake. It is about an hour each direction, on a gravel path. It is mostly uphill going there, and of course downhill on the return. Careful footing was important at times. We saw a young boy skid on the rocks on the way down, falling and really tearing up his knee... More

Relatively easy walk to here from First. Can get busy but with stunning back drop its worth the walk and can easily tie into larger distances.

We arrived from Faulhorn to the lakes. The lakes are very pretty but has dams/ a WC in between so views to the south of the mountains are not pristine.

This is a beautiful lake with a backdrop of the Eiger and Aletsch Glacier. The walk from First is pretty easy.

The hike is a lot of uphill (fine by us) and on gravel (not expected/enjoyable, particularly on the downhill, was glad to have our trekking poles). The lake itself is pretty small, and somewhat disappointing. It was a cloudy day (as most of our time in Grindelwald was), so perhaps that contributed to our feelings of being underwhelmed. I think... More

Take a picnic lunch and spend time at the lake. Take the trail from the lake to Bort after leaving the lake...it's beautiful.

There is nothing to dislike here. This is simply an amazing place to visit, gorgeous alpine scenery, beautiful lake and behind the massive Bernese Alps. This is defenitely a must see in Grindelwald. Walk up from Grindelwald (its quite a long walk!) or take the cablecare until First.

There you can see the reflection of mountain very clearly. A peaceful place for relax. After walking for more than an hour from First , you will then see the beautiful lake. I swear that you will not regret to walk for such a long time.

If you're in the Berner Oberland, you can't go home before you've taken the Gondola lift from Grindelwald to First, walked up to the Bachalpsee, and seen the view of the North face of the Alps with the lake in the foreground. It is simply incomparable. The snow-covered 4000m peaks of the Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhornare reflected in the beautiful... More
