Description: One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express...
One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur/Davos to Tirano (via St. Moritz) links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey through the UNESCO World Heritage RhB. On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.

Awesome way to see the Alps. Huge windows, comfortable seating. I would recommend purchasing first class tickets, if you have that option. We bought second class because we felt a panoramic view is a panoramic view, but we did have issues with a person who had a window seat and essentially blocked the view from everyone else. In first class,... More

Admit the weather was perfect for a train ride but I never expected the scenery to be so drop dead stunning - you just have to do this. Book a panoramic view seat on the Express train. We had 2.5 hours in St Moritz over the lunch period. All the high end shops but that didn't rock my boat. Had... More

This was the first time in Switzerland for our 3 generation family of 6 (ages 14-70). We wanted to travel the Bernina Express route with the option of hopping off and on to explore the villages and scenery along the way. Fortunately the regular commuter train travels the same route and at 7 am on a Sunday morning, we had... More

We have not taken a lot of train rides but the Bernina Express from Chur in in Switzerland to Tirano in Italy (we did the return as well) is a trip you will remember. The train runs from 450 metres to 2350 metres above sea level to the point where two lakes converge at the top of the alps with... More

The open air Bernina Red Train through the Alps is awesome. Easy to get tickets in July. No reservations needed. The open air cars are in the back and you can just walk back to them. You can do a 1.5 hour train ride to Ospizio Bernina stop, where you can have lunch at the train station, view the beautiful... More

We enjoyed this return trip from Tirana to St Moritz. The stunning views through the big windows and the relaxing way of traveling was just wonderful. Perfect with the stop at Alp Grüm with great photo opportunities. With two hours to spend in St Moritz we had lunch and had a look at this beautiful city. And don't miss the... More

Absolutely worth the diversion from direct route paris to milan. Breathtaking views of alpine meadows and mountains. To get on it you need to take a train from zurich to chur and change trains but was easy and the train from zurich even told you were to go to get on it, just on the otherside of the platform. The... This train trip was magnificent. Clean, modern and really informative with English narration all the way. We went 2nd class, which was perfect - we had suitcases and that was fine - plenty of room for them. The trip was one of the best experiences of my life - you did not know where to look, everywhere was so scenic.... More

This was so much better than the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz the day before. Sure, the Glacier Express is a tad fancier in terms of the train itself, but the actual ride on the Bernina Express was WAY more spectacular. They don't serve food, but you only have 2.5 hours, then 2 hour lunch break in Tirano,... More
