Description:

One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express...

One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur/Davos to Tirano (via St. Moritz) links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey through the UNESCO World Heritage RhB.

On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.

I found it difficult to get adequate information before my trip. We started our trip in Tirano. First of all - the "EXPRESS" part is for the coach with the panoramic windows. It cost an additional 5 euro to go with the coach with the paanoramic views. There is a train every hour but the coach with the panoramic windows goes... More

I took this trip the day after a trip on the glacier express and after the previous day it was more of the same. If you only have time for one trip, I would say the Glacier express is better. You will need to take your camera on this trip because the views are stunning.

I traveled from Feldbach to Chru in a Hertz car and got in to Bernia Express. Ticket booking was done on line and this is one of the best train travel experience that i had in Europe. The staffs are so warm and friendly. The train is clean and designed in the best way, so that they can ensure a... More

—Chur → Tirano in 1ˢᵗ class observation coach— This was the undoubted highlight of our 1,500-mile journey from Reading UK to Sorrento Italy by train. We left Chur (pronounced roughly ‘Koor’ if you’re an English-speaker) just before 09.00 and travelled through the edge of town, then pleasant countryside, on a bright winter’s day. At-seat service was attentive (though the prices... More

I took the Bernina Express last Thursday and it was spectacular. I bought a day ticket for CHF 45, which I highly recommend when traveling on a budget. I departed from Chur in the morning and switched to the Bernina Express in Samedan. From there I went all the way down to Tirano and enjoyed lunch there, before heading back... More

I did this journey from Tirano to St Moritz and I cannot describe just how breathtaking and stunning it was. It was genuinely like something from a fairytale and St Moritz was just as beautiful. I went first class with panoramic views and would highly recommend paying the little extra for this. It is one of the best experiences I... More

Have you seen the movie, The Polar Express? That’s what taking the Bernina feels like. Except in the day-time. And with as much snow and magic in the Alps as you ever did dream. Travelling with my 4-year-old nephew, and mother, I can’t think of a happier, more relaxed, easy way of taking in ahhh.mazing(!!!) scenery, minus the tiresome burden... More

My wife and I traveled to Chur, Switzerland from Innsbruck, Austria on 18 July so we're could catch the Bernina Express the next morning at 8:00AM. I suggest you purchase tickets on line in advance, especially in the high season. The train, like most in Switzerland and Germany, was right on time. The ride was very smooth and relaxing, with... What an amazing journey with stunning views and changing scenery including snowy mountains, skiers, snowboarders, frozen lakes.and the buildings which are built in both Swiss and Italian style. It was a beautiful sunny cold day when we traveled on this train which made it even more magical.
