Type: Scenic Railroads, Sightseeing Tours
Owner description: One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur/Davos to Tirano (via St. Moritz) links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey through the UNESCO World Heritage RhB. On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.

We took this tour from Milan (guided coach tour from Milan to Tirano, and then Bernina Express to St Moritz, and Coach back to Milan). The highlight was the Bernina Express as the winter scenery was unbelievable, but the commentary from our guide made the coach tour great as well. We had about 90 minutes in St Moritz - pretty,... Travelling from Chur to Tirano was lovely. The most amazing scenery and everything was very picturesque. We would recommend this.

We really enjoyed our trip on the Bernina express. The train is very comfortable and runs smooth and quietly considering it is a train. The staff on board was attentive and gave us helpful information. Audio is included overhead, giving you information on the sights around. The highlight, of course, is exiting the train atop the Bernina Glacier and strolling... More

Travel with the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano was one of the most amazing experiences I ever had in terms of landscape. I was traveling with my mother and auntie and they dont ski, so I thought the best way to have a nice experience with snow was taking the Bernina. And I was right. What we saw was... More

My wife and I made a day trip from St. Moritz to Tirano and back in early January. It was amazing and a must 'to do' for anybody in the region. It was winter, so the snow covered mountain added to the spectacular beauty of the alps. The journey took us through many many (some very long). The weather was... More

We purchased first class tickets for the trip. We did not see what type of seating second class offered, but the first class seats were comfortable, with ample storage for our luggage. Coffee, tea, wine, and snacks were served. We had already eaten a sufficient breakfast, so we passed on the snacks, but the coffee was welcome. I thought it... More

This is a great way to see some of the beautiful scenery in Switzerland. We started our trip in Lugano, starting the day with a bus trip through the lovely Italian villages and along Lake Como to Tirano. The bus driver gave some commentary along the way, trying to accommodate with three languages, English among them. In Tirano we swapped... More

We travelled from Tirano to davos platz stopping off in St moritz for a stroll around to see all the bling. The train trip is spectacular and should be on everyone's to do list! Lovely comfortable train- really busy but very comfortable. It slowly climbs to extraordinary heights with ease. Stunning view after stunning view. Bring your camera! Would I... More

My title may seem misleading, but the Bernina Express is a slow train through spectacular scenery and some pretty hair raising and mind-blowing civil engineering. Deep valleys with sheer drops, railway lines clinging to the edges of cliffs, a lot of spiraling tunnels and even a spiral viaduct near the Italian border. The whole journey is only about 85 miles... Although the price for the panorama seats for a roundtrip journey Tirano - St.Morritz was quite expensive, it was well worth it! The views of the alps are breath-taking! the bridges and the route itself is a miracle of the engineering. Don't forget to take coffee and snack with you! We made the trip during the winter and the trip... More
