We were blessed with clear weather so could experience the sights of the glaciers and the height we were climbing to the full. St Moritz at the top was a bit of a disappointment as although very scenic most of the town was closed for the summer. The walk around the lake at the foot of the hill was worth... More

We travelled from Tirano to St. Moritz (getting off at Ospizio Bernina and Alp Grum Glacier). An amazing experience: breathtaking view... simply great!

We travelled from Tirano to St Moritz. Incredible rail journey with the train climbing up to the Bernina glacier at 2800mtrs amongst the snow - even in July. Weather was great which helped but the scenery is incredible all the way. Tip.. Don't book the expensive Bernina Express panoramic rail coaches, just take an ordinary scheduled train. Much cheaper and... More

We echo the other positive reviews of this must do excursion. We left Como in torrential rain and the omens wwrent food. By the time we boarded the train in Tirano after a nice, no frills breakfast in the station buffet the rain had stopped and we had a superb 2 hour trip on the train. The panoramic windows make... We took the Bernina express between St. Moritz and Poschiavo - just to experience the fun and cross the Bernina pass on train. It was an interesting experience, as the train takes you to points which you don't normally see during the road trip. Also the speed is moderate to take nice photographs and the panoramic windows are excellent. The... More

If you are in the Lake Como area you must take a trip on the Bernina Express. A beautiful journey on the red train. You go through gorgeous mountains covered in snow and the views of the surrounding countryside are breathtaking. You leave the train near San Moritz,a spotlessly clean place. Be careful if you eat there-- we had 2... More

We were staying in Varenna on Lake Como. Catch the train from Varenna to Tirino early AM(~6:37 am) then you get on the Bernina express to St. Moritz (~10ish) in St. Moritz for midday. Italian line and Swiss line are right next to each other. Walk from one to the next to confirm platform. Here is what you need to... More

We travelled from Tirano to St Moritz with a tour group. What a wonderful experience. The journey was superb, the views magnificent and the feat of engineering which made this possible quite astounding. Highly recommended!

Traveling from Tirano, Italy we took the express train to St. Moritz. We returned on the 'second class' train. Second class does make a few extra stops, but saves 14 euro each direction. In second class you can also lower the windows which eliminates glare on the hundreds of photos you will take. Seating is about the same on both... More
