Mandatory attraction when in St Gallen. Step into the cathedral and experience the serenity. Be amazed at the architecture and construction and soak in the history! Behind the cathedral complex is a water fall with mining tunnels. There is a path that leads up to the southern slopes of St Gallen. The walk is well worth the effort!

Beautiful architecture, fascinating medieval frescos, free organ concerts on Saturdays, and the UNESCO World-Heritage Library just around the corner - what's not to like?

The convent is really several things rolled into one. The most unique aspect is the Library. This is a truly rare collection of early manuscripts and is not to be missed. However, I personally fell in love with the cathedral. From the exterior it looks nice but the interior is absolutely stunning. With a mainly white undertone, the frescos et... More

I love how light this building is compared to others and even prefer it to Einsiedeln. There are so many details to admire when sitting down and looking around 360 degrees. It's lovely to visit the Christmas concert and listen to the amazing choir in such an atmospheric setting. My visitors are always impressed.

First of all, St Gallen, was a monastery, not a convent; until Napoleon did away with ecclesiastical principalities in the territory of the Holy Roman Empire, the Abbot of St Gallen was also the secular prince of what is today the northern and western parts of the modern canton. Construction of the new abbey was finished just years before Napoleon's... More

I was told of this Cathedral before going to St Gallen on buisness and it is without doubt a 'must do' if visiting the area. The time it must have take to restore this historic building to its former glory is beyond comprehension. From the outside the building is modest but once within you are just in awe of its... More

The cathedral in St. Gallen, once a convent for nuns before it became a reformist church, is elegant and simple at the same time. It is free of charge and you have the opportunity to walk throughout the cathedral and enjoy the stain glass windows and artwork. The cathedral is closed during certain times for services, which you will be... More

We loved the library with all the historic books. We had to wear overshoes to ensure we did not damage the beautiful wooden floor.

It cannot be imaginable what a glorious place the St Gallen Cathedral is. When you find it from outer side you can remember one of outstanding cathedral in Europe, which is one located in Switzerland. Also, it can be a symbol of Swiss past history. We went there on Saturday and accidently there was a wedding ceremony there! It was... More
