It is simply stunning. Completely wowed by this library. The books on display were truly magnificent. Should get top marks and then some, however I got shouted at for taking a photo (no flash) and it's a little pricey given the size. The larger museum downstairs was a ok. However it's a definite must if you're in St. Gallen.

We're sorry for you being shout at for taking photos. Photographing isn't allowed inside the library as signs inform you before you enter the Baroque hall. We prohibit photographing to protect our manuscripts. More

Trip to this thousand+ year old abbey library was simply amazing, and very inspirational. The architecture spans several historical eras, as do the books. Very well done presentations, with audio guides in English. Quite impressive.

I have visited this beautiful library together with my friend. The fee was not much, we changed to shoes to comfortable slippers and entered the magical world of the library! I really liked the whole atmosphere there and exhibitions explaining the development of the paper from ancient Egyptians up to Guttenberg book printing time...It is the oldest library in Switzerland... As a former student of history and architecture the library itself was lovely but practically I thought the entry 12 Francs was far too high for what was offered. Even if you read the few small signs and studied each painting carefully you probably could still be done in under 10 minutes. Plus even with the high entry fee visitors... More

It's free to go there for Swiss Pass holder. To protect the wooden floor of the library, visitors were asked to tuck into over-sized slippers provided by the library. The books/parchment in there were not accessible, but one can admire the painting at ceiling and learn about the history of writing.

Overwhelming atmosphere of the room with many details to be seen apart of the impressing abbey which is surrounded by pictoresque houses of St. Gallens old town.

A small but beautiful library with amazing aged old collections. Suggested to use Guided tour if English is available as I am sure I would know more about this place and its related stories. The globe is another interesting object to look into the details

This isn't a normal library. This place is dripping with writing history. Shuffling about in over-size slippers creates a quiet atmosphere where you can just sit on a chair an become engulfed in the beautiful panelling. Take your time because this visit is extraordinary. Read how writing first stated, parchment, paper and how it all evolved. A real gem in... More

This is the second most beautiful library I ever visited (after the Trinity College Old Library in Dublin). It is not very large but the decor is sumptuous and the paintings wonderful. And being in the middle of so many old books is magic. This is really an unmissable place for whoever passes by St Gallen!

Awe-strucked by the wonderful architecture and the ancient atmosphere! A most go in St. Gallen, as it is part of the UNESCO heritage!
