A small but beautiful library with amazing aged old collections. Suggested to use Guided tour if English is available as I am sure I would know more about this place and its related stories. The globe is another interesting object to look into the details

This isn't a normal library. This place is dripping with writing history. Shuffling about in over-size slippers creates a quiet atmosphere where you can just sit on a chair an become engulfed in the beautiful panelling. Take your time because this visit is extraordinary. Read how writing first stated, parchment, paper and how it all evolved. A real gem in... More

This is the second most beautiful library I ever visited (after the Trinity College Old Library in Dublin). It is not very large but the decor is sumptuous and the paintings wonderful. And being in the middle of so many old books is magic. This is really an unmissable place for whoever passes by St Gallen!

The library is a must visit. The room is incredibly beautiful. The painted ceilings a feast for the eyes. There are books hundreds of years old. Most are available to read. Those a hundred years old or less can be taken out. Those older than a 100 years can be read on the premises. Do not miss this Unesco heritage... More

Beautiful collection in a beautiful setting. The entrance fees is a little steep (but everything in Switzerland is expensive) but it is definitely worth it for the "been there done that" crowd. You are not allowed to take photos,(even without a flash) and I recommend listening to a guide as you will miss a lot without one.

Full disclosure - my graduate work was in medieval studies, so I knew the St Gallen collection was a major big deal, but never had a reason to visit it 'in person'. I finally found an excuse for a trip there this weekend and was not disappointed. I had never before seen so many ninth-century books on display in one... More

We were driving from Vaduz to Zurich and there's a clearly faster way to get there; however, we decided to take the side trip to see the Abbey library. The weather was bad and the driving was sometimes harrowing but it was so worth it. St. Gallen, the city, was having a celebration and so many of the streets were... More

We were lucky to get inside the library as it is only open on certain days (check website before going). Before entering you are asked to put some large slippers over your shoes so as not to damage the floors which shows you how well preserved this library truly is. There are no words for the beauty of the library... More
