The castle is very nice, with a beautiful courtyard and great views from the top of the city. In itself it is worth a visit after a stroll around the medieval streets of Neuchatel. Without a visit you can only see the external parts and the internal courtyard. Visits are every half-hour or so, but we missed the last one... More

Just a nice place to walk to. Also nice as point of view on the historic part of Neuchâtel. Worth it on sunny days for shooting pictures. Else, no restaurant nor any other entertainment.

My experience was different from what others explained. I arrived for the 2pm guided tour in English so I could see some of the rooms inside The Chateau because if you are not on a tour, you can't see very much. I was the only person there...great! But then several French speaking tourist arrived, so the guide said she needed... More

The chateau is used as the offices for the Neuchatel canton, so is in excellent condition. Free tours are given and when we visited we were given ( in English ) a most comprehensive and knowledgeable tour of the rooms , explaining the history of not only the chateau but of the evolution of the Neuchatel canton. It was a... More

You'll have a very nice view from the top! And if you need a refreshment, there's a café with icecream :).

One does not need a guided tour as long you study some of the information on the history of Neuchatel. Start your trip at the banneret fountain which already gives you an impression of old Neuchatel. Climb up (for older people having a problem with climbing this can be very steep and tiring at times so beware) towards the castle... More

I was exploring the area on my own and hiked up to the Chateau. The view from the top is stunning. The property itself is historic with great history inside and out. The Chateau is still operational.

I think this is a place to see if you are in Neuchâtel : you will appreciate the view over the city, can have a free guided tour in the castle where part of the administration of this state works, and you will enjoy the authentic atmosphere of the castle + cathedral.
