It's sort of a pain to get all the way up to Mount Pilatus, but it couldn't be more worth it. From the train station in town, you take a bus to the outskirts, then walk about ten minutes, then take two cable cars up to the mountain. The first cable car ride is so cool! I waited all week in Lucerne to see Mt Pilatus as it was cloudy until my second to last day . . . took the tour from the city centre on the lake then up the cable car, then later down the gondola. It was partially cloudy at the top but cleared enough to see the stunning view. Decent food... more

We only had one day in Lucerne and since the sun was shining I was expecting a great view. The problem is that weather was really nice down in the city but really cloudy up there. We went up to Mt. Pilatus to stay the night in mid-July. Of the close to 24 hours we spent on the mountain, we got about 10 minutes of good view - which was amazing while it lasted.
