The large campus of many different transport modes (trains, cars, airplanes, boats) is a good place for kids to burn off energy. Much of it is indoors making it good for rainy days. A lot of fun activities in the central outdoor area. Enough technical details and history to keep adults interested as well.

After settling into my hotel midday, I planned one event for myself - a trip down to the most popular museum in the country of Switzerland: The Swiss Transportation Museum! The museum itself is a good half hour walk from the city center along Lake Luzern, so I enjoyed my stroll past bathers, sun-bathers, dog walkers, and dog bathers. I... More

Centrally located in Lucerne and has a wonderful display showing the evolution of trains, boats and planes in the swiss transport system. Contains a planetarium, kids area and a Swiss chocolate manufacturing experience demo. Highly recommended.

We debated about going and were so glad we did. It was a reasonably long walk along the lakeside, but the gardens views were beautiful. We got the ferry back (about 2 Euros each) If you had children, or a train/car/boat/plane/space travel fan in the family, allow several hours just for the transport section. We did not visit the film... More

We decided to visit the museum on a rainy day & since it was quite highly recommended. The place sure is filled with all types of trains, cars & planes. There are some outdoor activities too, like canoeing & remote control toy boats. My 10 year old boy had a great time with his dad, especially at the flight simulators.... More

The Transport Museum is a fantastic day out for everyone. There are several different things that you can go and see within the museum as well as the transport. Planetarium, chocolate experience, and more. You have to buy tickets for whichever ones you are interested in. We bought tickets for the Transport Museum and the Chocolate experience. It was all... As an engineer, I especially appreciated the quality of the train, plane, and automobile exhibits highlighting the Swiss technical ability to conquer their difficult terrain. Chocolate tour was a great new feature of the museum showing the making of chocolate from the harvesting of the beans to shipment of the bars.

You can get to this wonderful museum either by train to Lucerne Verkehrshaus or boat to Verkehrhaus Lido. It is well set out with seperate sections for Trains, Planes, Boats and Cars. A great visit for people of all ages. There is a wonderful external wall showing an extremely large selection of road signs that from the train look as... More

This place is awesome. The Swiss have to be appreciated for painstakingly documenting the birth and development of the Swiss Railways. Surprisingly, this place engages both, the young and old. The original and miniature models with detailed notes are very impressive. Children will enjoy the activity and play areas, and audiovisuals. Science enthusiasts will appreciate how the mechanisms underwent a... More

It's a bit pricey, but so is everything in Switzerland. We had a card from the hotel so we got a four franc discount each and paid 52 francs to get in (for both of us). There were many interactive exhibits and we ended up spending about four hours there. You can buy basic food -sausage and bread or fries-... More
