This is the first large baroque church built in Switzerland north of the Alps, constructed in the 17th century. Its very ornate interior and the beautiful organ are well worth a visit, and its location smack on the left river bank of the Reuss adds a dramatic effect.

Overall, we were a little underwhelmed by the various churches in Switzerland. This was the exception. It was closed when we first went by. We returned later in the evening and had the pleasure of listening to the organist practice. As we do in all churches, we simply sat and enjoyed the solitude and quietness punctuated by the beauty of... More

It is right by the water and the Kapellbrucke ( Old Chapel Bridge). It is free and worth to go inside.

This beautiful church is right opposite the Chapel Bridge and deserves a visit. The size of the two towers is impressive, but more impressive is the ceiling of the interior. The artwork on the ceiling is amazing and you can spend a long time just gazing upwards!

Very pretty on the inside. Good example of the Baroque architecture period. Very interesting that all the beautiful marble in the side chapels, is really fake!

Beautiful old church located right by the River. Often they have concerts inside the church. Outside of the church is a nice plaza and steps down to the river were many tourists feed the famous Swiss white Swans.

As others have noted, it is spectacular inside but looks like any other old building from the outside. Beautiful alter area, painted ceilings, etc. Near more famous Chapel Bridge.

It is located by the river within 2 minutes walk from the Chapel Bridge. The exterior of church is ncie but nothing spectacular. However, the interior was another story. It was beautifully decorated with a lot of amazing artwork. There is a farmer market outside the church on Saturday morning.

This church is nothing overly spectacular from outside, but I'm glad we stopped and were able to hear history stories from our guide. She made it worthwhile. We only stayed 5-10 minutes so that's all you need unless you want to pray or join services.

From the outside this old church looks like any old building in the city. Go inside an it is gorgeous! Beautiful chandeliers, amazing artwork on the ceilings, and everything that looks like red marble is actually painted and not marble. It is just spectacular !
