There is not a lot of soul to Geneva, but it you want to understand it. go to this museum. 2 floors of very good art with a healthy offering of Swiss art which was very interesting. The museum is small but exceptionally well laid out with beautiful exhibits in each section,. But the highlights were the 4 rooms from... More

The building itself is beautiful and some of the exhibits splendid but unfortunately most of the staff appeared to be more like exhibits! Lifeless and ancient! There was no effort made to help or explain. This suggests to me a lack of motivation or enthusiasm from management. All in all a disappointing experience.

Geneva. City of Peace. City of out-sized prosperity. City of the Jet d'eau. A city of 400'000 where one can fly non-stop to New York, Washington DC and Beijing. However, its main museum, the Musée d'Art et d'HIstoire, has probably the most underwhelming holdings of any such museum of any 'World City' globally and most certainly of any European city... More

Some lovely art work on display! It is a good activity for your children.....especially because on certain days they have special theme based tours for active little brains.

Stumbled upon the Museum when walking around Geneva and was very pleasantly surprised. It is free to enter, they have lockers for your bags and they have volunteers who welcome you to the museum and offer advice in your own language. The art collection is truly world class, with a host of Monets, Hogarths, Rodins etc as well as some... More

Of course there are different varieties of exhibitions in this museum, but they are not well organized and described in detail. So after spending two hours there, I just got some poorly organized information. The only virtue is free entrance.

Perhaps the largest encyclopedic museum in Switerzerland, this five story early 20th century structure is home to a collection of world-class art, but navigating one's way through the building may present a chore for some. The ground floor (O on the plans) presents a selection of armor from the late Middle Ages (jousting knights, anyone?), Byzantine icons, early Christian art,... More

One of the rooms in the museum was shut and two paintings we particularly wanted to see (Christ Walking on Lake Leman and a Corot view of Lake Leman) where not on display.

The museum is located in centre of city. An entrance is free, just take brochures in your own language and start your trip. Don't use flash when photographing inside of museum. There are many interesting pieces of Swiss history, each room have its nostalgy and sense. There are number of modern art sculptures made by metal rubbish. Be ready to... More

Excellent gallery and museum in a lovely old building, and all for free. Only had time to do the art floor, really good collection. Some well known artists, - Pissaro, Sisley, Van Gogh - but also lots of fantastic Swiss artists that I'd never heard of - Hodler and Liotard to name but two. Sadly we didn't have time for... More
