Since i am fond of history and my wife with the history of art, this museum was one of the reason we visited Geneva and we did a good choise. If you love art this is the place to go.

The Geneva museum of art and history was an accidental find while exploring the city. The museum features an excellent mixture of artifacts and artworks (both modern and classical) from the local area and around the world. We thought that this museum was a real gem, small enough to keep adults and children engaged while being big enough to offer... More

This is not Geneva's flashiest attraction, but it is certainly one of its finest, and admission is free! Located in a rather dirty, grey, older building on a very busy street, you wouldn't know that this museum has such a rich and colourful collection of Swiss painting. It is new to me to discover phenomenal Swiss painters such as Ferdinand... More

There were hardly any other visitors at the museum when I went (a Saturday morning in July). And, unless you visit on a very busy day (when would that be then? A rainy afternoon in November maybe?) expect to be 'followed' by the room attendants. Not sure why they do this ... do they think I'm going to nab an... More

Great place, spend there 4 hours because the collections were so rich, with Picasso, Van Gogh or impressionists. Paintings, sculptures and a liitble bit of local history make this place amazing. Definetely worth visiting.

Absolutely worth a visit if you have the time, there's something for everyone. A couple of Cezannes, a Van Gogh, a few works of Monet (including the stunning "Pivoines"), a smaller version of Rodin's Thinker. There was a Picasso on loan when I visited, so that was exciting. I also enjoyed the (smallish) egyptian wing.

As always I pin the museums on my trip planner so that I make sure I never miss one. This particular one did not impress, but I was caught by the swords and weapons section; I liked every single piece in that collection. That was a nice surprise for me. I still rate it 4 stars because I think that... More

We came here during the day on a Friday, we were the only people here so security followed us around. It was not a very straightforward museum with doors closed to each area seeming like the area was closed off. No air conditioning. The level -1 was interesting with Egyptian artefacts etc

I rarely leave a city without checking its collection of Western Art, so I ventured up to the district know as Les Tranchées which is near the Cathedral and overlooks the city and the lake. For starters, the museum is free, so it’s difficult to be jaded over the fact that no world-renowned paintings hang there. If you are an... More
