Unbelievably well maintain heritage architecture going back 900 years. A fully 'lived-in' city, with the old city attracting high paying residents. Unbelievable river location. Fabulous views of the Alps- almost at your fingertips. Scrupulously clean, and the clock at the town square is a big draw.

This city is like a fairy tale come true! There are UNESCO protected 'sites' in other cities, but this city is a UNESCO protected site! Walking in this city is like being a part of beautiful and exciting history of Switzerland. We loved this city and its a must visit during your trip to Switzerland!

Switzerland is a beautiful country to visit. Clean and picturesque. Bern is a small city but has many things to see, old historic things as well as modern shopping and facilities. People are friendy and there's a vast array of places to eat. Your well connected by train to visit other places from here too.

Nora, the tour guide was great. It says it is free, but our tip was appreciated. My college-aged daughter and I only had one day in Bern and this was absolutely the best way to spend it.

Seriously, after you saw snow clad mountains from top of Europe, you see the lake & greenery of Lucerne , Swiss still has tonnes to offer and Bern old town and the area around is bliss .. Narrow streets, small shops, people eating on the road , less traffic , it's a different feeling altogether! highly recommended area ..

One just doesn't think of going to this part of town, what with the Federal area, museums, shops, and so on. You get a feeling what this town looked like in earlier days.

Old town Bern was a fun place to visit. It has a lot of history and the old buildings were fun to see and explore. The streets are old cobblestones and covered arcades so you c an still shop in rain, wind or shine. We also took a free walking tour of Bern, which I will review in a different... More

Things are pretty expensive though, but the city is well worth a look. the river adds to the experience. Don't forget to check out the bears and close top that, the viewing spots. Use the trams! reliable, good and quickly take you to every corner of the town - free. (well, there is tourist tax but there would have been... More

It is a UNESCO Heritage Site and really impressive. Beautiful architecture, complemented by a fabulous tower clock and flags along the entire street.
