Bern is a beautiful city nestled on an undulating terrain. The old town has a rich history and the cobbled streets are are hosts to a good selection of shops and cafes. Offering good views and spectacular scenery Bern is a highly livable city away from the bustling financial centers.

To go for a walk in the evening at the time of Christmas is quite fairylike. The town is lighted and you can admire the shops.

Founded 1191, you can still experience the medieval spirits especially in old town (Junkerngasse, Brunngasse, Nydeggbridge, Matte-District). Recommended nice views from Cathedral tower, Kirchenfeldbridge towards Helvetiaplatz and back, and the platform of the houses of Parliament. There is also a well-known spooky house in the Junkerngasse (not visitable), but easy recognised by the ghost piktogram at the entrance

A great place to spend the day. The clock tower is quite fascinating. Plenty of shops and restaurants. There is a great department store that serves a cafeteria style lunch. Marvelous selection and reasonable prices. Plenty of locals eat there. Well worth the visit. Check out the bear pit along the river.

Perfect place to go for a walk. There's a lot of beautiful old style Swiss houses. There's also a lot of old bridges which are very interesting too. You can go with kids because there's not too much cars, and the pedestrians have the priority.

Lovely part of Bern with photo ops around every corner. Clean and well maintained, lots of restaurants. Be sure to time your visit with the handicraft market by the church. No wonder it is on UNESCOs list of World Heritage Sites.

Despite being small, you can spend several hours walking through the old town of Bern. Filled with little gems, the "Altstadt" is full of secrets that can only be discovered if you pay a lot of attention. Don't miss the "Untertorbrücke", this is the oldest bridge across the river Aare located in Bern. Simply amazing.

I will have to say that this is nicer then Zurich's old town, being more picturesque and less commercial and also smaller and more quaint. Still plenty of streets to meander aimlessly through and hopefully get lost in history for a moment. Starting near the train station, I walked along the main street (trying to stay out of the way... My mom and I loved walking around old town Bern. With so many cool buildings, clock towers, and renaissance fountains to look at, we had a great time
