An easy ride on the city train (they call it a tram) gets you to the base of the Gurtenbahn funiculaire, and you can buy tickets to ride it or do the steep hike up to the top of Gurten Mountain. Many people and cyclists take the funiculaire to the top and walk or ride down, but a round-trip ticket... More

Hi there, thank you very much for your feedback! Since last sunday we got the snow we were waiting for for so long and the rope tow is finally open. There is actully no ice skating ring, this what you saw, was the water fountain which only runs in the summer. Hope to see you again! More

We used to gothere with the kids if we don't have anything to do. We pack our picnic lunch, biscuits, juice and picnic mat. You can take some activities for the kids and spend the day there. Tip. There are installed grills everywhere. You can always get your marinated meat, burger and hot dog and have a BBQ. Don't forget... More

Looking for things to do in Bern in winter we discovered the GurtenBahn up to the mountain peak. Simply catch the tram number 9 to "Gurtenbahn stop". Head toward the hill and then find the "funicular" steep mountain train a short walk away. If you're staying at an hotel in Bern, your travel Bern Card which you receive in exchange... More

We had lunch on Sunday in the restaurant of the Gurten Hotel overlooking Bern. Food was great, service very friendly and the views over Berne phantastic.

Nice short hiking and excellent views of the city of Bern, community of Köniz, the Alps and the Jura. A very nice hike up (40 minutes) is from 'Blinzern' the end stop of Bus 19 line. Best walk from the bottom station of the Gurtenbahn is the hiking trail via the Studholz (brilliant views). Don't go up on Sundays if... More

I have been here twice. It is a lovely place for a slow walk on the numerous trails. The view is awesome. I have seen families here playing on the large open spaces. There are also playgrounds available. We climbed to the top of the observation tower for a spectacular view of the entire countryside. There is really something for... More

I have walked up to the Gurten several times and never tire of the views. For those not able for the walk there is a funicular train running directly to the top. The cafe is one of the best I have ever used, it is spotlessly clean and has an excellent choice of food and drinks, all at reasonable prices.... More

Once there you get a wonderful view of Bern and of the Alps. There are several nice walks. Two good restaurants, one (by Swiss standards!) cheap take-away with indoor and outdoor seatings and another one quite pricy where you can sit inside and have a view of the city while dining. Please note, you better make a reservation to get... More

It's a quick trip on public transportation to get to the Gurten. I think we just jumped on the 12 line to Wabern and the Gurten funicular was one of the last stops. Cake! Pros: 1. If you are a hiker, walker, disk golf, have kids, or brunch person, this is for you. There is a great park for kids... More
