Ease of access. Lots of room to picnic, play structures, small restaurant, very clean and well kept grounds.

It is a great place to view the entire city of Bern as well as the mountains. In winter, you can go sledding and in the summer time, it is a great place to hike and picnic. There is also a music festival in the summer that is good fun.

If you have a public transit pass, it works on the funicular to the top of the mountain. We enjoyed a ride to the top and walking down. Climb to the top of the tower and you should have a great view of the Alps with a map to name the peaks (it was cloudy when we were there so... More

Dogs and pushchairs welcome on the cable car up - that is, if you don't want to climb the mountain. Sightseing point at the top from there a fantastic view over the Berner Oberland, round to the Jura Mountains and Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau in the distance. That in itself is awesome, carry on for a long walk on the... More

the Gurten is Bern's very own "home mountain" - they call it the "Haus Berg" - it is reached with a short street car ride from the city center to Wabern and from there with the Gurtenbahn (cog railways "Zahnradbahn) to the summit. On the summit on a clear day one can enjoy spectaculars views of Bern, the Bernese Alps,... More

If you are lucky enough to go there on a sunny, bluebird day, you will definitely enjoy the views. I've been there twice in a sunny October, the first time I got back in the city via Wabern, the second time via Köniz. The way down on the Wabern side is sunier and goes through picturesque pasture areas and ends... More

If you want to get rid of the city hustle, go up gurten hill. You can choose funicular, but if you feel fit,i recomend to walk it up. From there you can see a spectacular view over Bern, and over the Bernasie Alps. The view is magnificent and full of stamina gaver.

We had a nice trip up in the tram and enjoyed some lunch at the top. Unfortunately the day was too hazy to see much from the top and we ended up having a better view from the rosengarten! This would be best for kids I think, with activities etc up the top.

nothing particular : it's a buffet, serving season rösti, salad and dessert. Nothing tremedous, but not disgusting for the price
