We were there on a very sunny Sunday. Perfect place for families with young children. The playground is big and with lots of activities/toys for then. The little trains and cars make the difference for the little ones. If you drive, find a park space close to the station might be a hassle.

Well worth a walk to the top of Gurten for the beautiful view of the mountains and of Bern itself! There is a small funicular train if you do not wish to walk however it is quite pricey considering the short distance it travels. Nice restaurant on top of the hill so you can soak up the view!

Last Sunday, the weather was very good for hiking. My hiking trips to Gurten started from Tierpark Dahlholzli (the zoo), followed the wanderweg (foot paths) to Wabern & Gurten bahn, then up hill, climb up the staircase (part of the wanderweg), i think more than 200 steps, then the wanderweg went through few houses, parallel with the route of cable... You can go up the Gurten with a little mountain train. There is a restaurant and a tower as well as fun park for kids. Go up the tower and you'll have an amazing view. The restaurant is very expensive though.

Gurten is kinda small mountain. It is a great place for hanging out, hike, take children. The place can be reached via tram. The best thing is the view you get from the top which is amazing. There is a restaurant also.

Gurten is the mountain located just to the south of Bern. It was just a few minutes away from city center through tram. This place offers romanesque views of Bern and Alps along with some luxurious facilities for tourist. There is small train for kid’s entertainment and many more attractions for kids as well as for elders. This is the... More

The Gurten is a small mountain, where the locals like to hang out and picnic, hike, play frisbee and fly kites. It features terrific views of the snow capped mountain ranges that ring Bern. For those who don't mind heights, there's a tall observation tower, (accessed by climbing several flights of stairs) that offers even more stunning views. There's also... More

We loved Gurton. Unfortunately we only had one day in Bern and went there late in the afternoon. The views were stunning and the gardens and parklands looked very enticing but we had to return without exploring too far. Would definitely return with a picnic next time.
