We spent a day up here while on a recent visit to Bern. We rode the funicular up and hiked down. the top offers magnificent views of the mountains and is also a beautiful place to spend a day. there were families hiking, picnicking and just relaxing. there is a fantastic playground area complete with miniature trains that ride around... Only for a clear day and if you have a spare few hours, I was in Bern for a week so a break from the city - take the tram 9 from the Bern Bahnhof in the city to Gurtenbahn stop , your hotel travel pass will cover this and the funicular up. You do not need to use the... More

This is the house mountain of Bern. A visit is a must when spending a longer time in the capital of Switzerland. You have a great view on the top, not only to the city of Bern, but also to the mountains. There is a large playground for children and a cable car is running to the top, so you... More

The views of the Alps are simply amazing. Along with many trails to walk or bike, along with a children's playground, it is an afternoon well spent. There are also a couple of restaurants - I paid 20 CHF for sasuage/potato along with a beer - not too bad considering. The tram up the mountain is free if you have... More

My bf and I made the trek to the park at Gurten. It was too cloudy to see the Alps, but we had amazing views of Bern and the outlying countryside. The park is accessible from the city centre by bus, and the tram to the top is free IF you have a hotel Bern card. Otherwise, adult tickets are... More

By taking just for a few minutes a cable train, you get to the Gurten and have an amazing view of both Bern's old town and the Alpes. Great place for walks, cycling, picnics, families with children and couples.

This should definitely be part of any family's visit to Bern, with tons of green space, fantastic playgrounds, and a cool tower. Plus there's a great cafeteria at the top, so no need to plan ahead for a picnic.

I had a great time coming here because you have some amazing views on a clear day and the 30min walk / hike up the hill is easy enough. At the bottom of the hill there are plenty of shops, plus a nearby supermarket. The public tram service is also incredibly easy to get your head around.

The Gurten is the mountain just to the south of Berne. You can use the funicular for ~10CHF but if you have a Berne bus pass, you can get up the mountain for free. There is a nice little restaurant at the top as well as a play park for kids and a small train. You can walk around the... More
