We had a great time making our way through the city on a tram that left us close to the cable car... No language issues getting tickets or info and not a scary ride up the hill. We were delighted to sit at the outdoor cafe (self serve cafeteria inside even has decent wine). There is a nice park at... More

I was attracted to Bern because I enjoy strolling through the old town but when we arrived on a Sunday (and also a holiday) practically everything was closed. Sitting at breakfast we had a view up to the hilltop where Gurten is found and I figured there had to be something up there. Sure enough checking tripadvisor this was indeed... More

take the #9 tram to gurtenblad stop and walk up the hill to the furnicular. $10.50 round trip. Very high location with views of Bern from hiking trails and rolling pasture. Playgrounds for kids nice. An expensive restaurant and a cafeteria style spot with good selection. Pick a clear day so you don't waste the trip.

Just a short walk from the old town to the "funicular" to Gurten. From Gurten you'll have a great view over Bern. Gurten is an ideal starting point for exploring the green hills surrounding Bern.

The locals have used this spot for a long time for family BBQ, walks or the Gurten Festival in Summer. Great if you want have view over Bern and to the Berner Oberland and mountains. Easy funicular trip up to Gurten. Bring your PicNic or there is a self serve restaurant that won't break the bank.

It's THE place to go when you don't know what to do or where to go. Never a dull moment up there, for families, singles or couples.

This is a beautiful area for everyone. For sitting and relaxing, admiring the view (both towards Bern and towards to Alps), hiking, bicycle riding, play things for children, ski slopes for little ones in winter. One of my favourite places, have been there in summer and winter and both wonderful experiences. Remember to climb the tower for an even better... More

Take your camera with you, as this is the best view in Bern. There is something for everyone at the Gurten, you can have a gentle stroll, hike, watch the mountain biker trials, go to the Gurten festival in July (around 90chf per night) theres a fantastic play area for children and a little railway which costs a couple of... This is by far my favorite place in bern, it has an amazing view countryside, mountains and the alps on your right and a panoramic view of Bern on your left, the restaurant there has very good and relatively cheap food (Swiss prices), running, cycling or just chilling on the hill is just heavenly good, I totally recommend it for... The park is visited heavily by locals to play ball, to barbecue or to just lie in the sun. Tourists are not an unusual sight, though this little attraction is missed by most of the many that visit the city. Hiking paths lead in all directions and you will almost certainly stumble across some cows when walking around. A wooden... More
