It is a free swimming place for old and young. You can swim in the river Aare or in a swimming pool for free. There is a big green place for lying down and just enjoy the sun. In summer there is a lot of people, you can enjoy a ice or a beach volley game.

I had heard before we came about how much fun it is to jump into the Aare and be carried down the river. I had also seen some videos. I had to give it a go. The further up river you go before jumping in, the more time you have to enjoy 'the ride' before having to worry about how... More

Before getting in the water, we asked several locals how easy or not it was to get out from the river, and they were all like - are you guys good swimmers? The fact is I am a totally average swimmer, no special skills, no previous experience in such rivers. At the same time, I knew I would definitely regret... More

the water can be a little cool and you have to be a good swimmer, because the river runs fast. Just walk upriver and you get back to the Marzili automatically. There is also a pool but the real thing is to go into the river.

Just jump in! Make sure you are a strong swimmer as the current is swift and you need to pull yourself out. Otherwise this is an awesome spot to do something out of the ordinary. If you are driving there, don't park on the other side of the river where there are no steps and railing to grab onto. You... More

Before we visited Bern, I was really looking forward to trying this out. When we got there, the weather was only in the 70's and it was a bit overcast. But my daughter and I still made the plunge. It was very cold, but a lot of fun. The water is very clear. There are several points along the river... More

This is a lovely refreshing swim but there are 3 potential problems. First the temperature (check the temperature water displays in the Marzili pool area and make sure it is a temperature you can deal with. Second, there are undertow currents. These seem to be strongest at the sides of the river, but you don't want to stray too far... More

We visited Bern for its UNESCO status of the Old Town and did not know anything about bathing in the Aare river. Then, it was a very hot Sunday afternoon we saw plenty of people swimming along happily in the strong currents of the Aare and thought we' try it out as people really seemed to be enjoying themselves. It... More

I thoroughly enjoyed the swimming baths and went there daily for reading on my iPad while tanning in the sun. I approached the Aare with humility. There are several exits alongside the pool. I swam between the first and last exit, which was quite exhilarating albeit cautious. The water was crisp and refreshing. An absolute must do on any visit... More
