This beautiful and charming clock tower will stop you in your tracks. The entire city of old town Bern is charming and whimsical, but the Clock Tower is the Crown Jewel. The clock tower in Munich came to mine immediately. Beautifully maintained.

We didn't know about this Clock Tower in advance (i.e. we just came upon it while wandering Old Town) and it was a 'wow' moment. So beautiful and intricate. Made us just take a moment and think about all the artistry and engineering that went into it. Really magnificent.
The clock wasn't as impressive as I expected it to be but it was nice to see. There are lots of surrounding shops and places to eat or grab a drink.
See the Zytglogge Tower at full hours, especially at noon time. The astronomic watch is impressing, as well as the nice hour-play at the full hours. The whole atmosphere is nice as all buildings around are in the old medieval style. A "must" when you are in Berne.
It definitely stands out of all the other buildings. You will see it as you walk down the main road. To my opinion, of course, Bern is about finding the hidden gems of the city. And you can hardly call this hidden. :)
Beautiful to look at but not much in it if you don't plan to be there at 11:55 to see everything working.
If you are in Bern, go and see the watchtower 'Zytglogge' at the full hour. Best thing is to take a city tour. With the explanations you get much more out of it. Such a tour leads you through the whole town and you will also enjoy the Kathedral, the many fountains, the bear park, the house of parlements and...

Bern is a very cozy and charming city. It features so many attractions as the "Loube" (arcades), the cathedral, the river Aare, old majestic buildings and so on. What exactly is special about this Zytglogge which attracts so many clicks from cameras, especially japanese ones? Is it this hooting whistle every hour, lasting for a few seconds? Is it the...

It wasn't easy to find, as it blends in really well with the rest of the surrounding buildings. And coming from the main rail station as I was, there were no signposts or directions that I saw to get me to it. But I eventually stumbled across it from the other direction when returning to the station.
What can you...

nice photo shot. walking towards the clock, one will pass by many fountains in the middle of the road. Each fountain different from the next. i think it would be better to go there when the clock strikes instead of just looking at how it works.
