I wouldn't make this a reason for visiting very disappointing. It is a visual piece of history however not like the Astronomical Clock in Prague.

The Clock Tower is within the centre of town and a decent focal point, and is also a nice thing to set your eyes on for 30 seconds, however I wouldn't suggest making a journey to see it as you'll be ultimately disappointed. A few things on the clock move about and that at the turn of the hour but... More

The tower is nice, a gate to Gramgasse, 4 minutes before the hour you will see the anination and the turning of the clock, it is worth to see it and take a couple of photos. We could not take the tower tour, because it is valid fron 1st of April.

We've been here during a school group journey through Switzerland. We were dissapointed for what we expected. Nothing special, had nothing to do with Prague astronomical clock to which it looks like.

Compare to the Prague one it is nothing. A nice clock to pass by. Nothing to get excited about. If you are in Bern as a tourist worth seeing I suppose

The Clock Tower was originally part of the Old City walls, and the clock dates back to 1530. The clock performs four minutes before each hour with a jester, Father Time, rooster and golden man come to life for a short skit.

Be sure to stop by the clock tower at 5 minutes before the hour to see the clock turn and animate. It only takes 5 minutes.

Time it - pun intended. Get there on the hour and enjoy the little figurines on the clock tower and also the story that is told. There are many tourists that walk in the direction of the tower to enjoy the clock tower and its beautiful artistic, working, functioning design. I would certainly take the kids here.

The Tower was first put up in 1220. The clock has later additions. The procession of apostles just before the hour mark is climaxed by a Golden Chronos striking the clock bell. The main clock face has a smaller beautiful astronomical dial below it.
