Great shopping street in Basel

An incredible old historic district with a plethora of different types of shops for apparel or confectionaries. There is literally a shop for you regardless of your interests.

Well, you are certainly going end up in this street as it is in the city center just before the real old Altstadt (going down you end up on the square where the Rathaus is).All the brandname shops are there. But then again, who on earth is gonna go shopping in Basel when there are far more interesting things to do? :-)

This is the shopping avenue of Basel. You can find stores like H&M, C&S, Zara, Colors of Benetton, and some I had not heard of like Pfauen, Beldona, Blue Lemon, Boots’sHeels, etc. You can find shops here to fit any and all budgets. There are some beautiful cafes to stop for refreshments along the way. This street was extremely busy... More

Why anyone would want to look round shops in a lovely place like Basel with its old town and other points of interest is beyond me. It's almost inevitable you will find yourself here as it is one of the main streets. To me it was nothing but overpriced shops and restaurants. Up the road is the lovely church and... More

If you're visiting Basel to shop, this is your whistle-stop tour of everything you need in terms of high-street stores, designers, boutiques and more.

This street was busy on each day of our stay in Basel. There are many shops of all budgets and all types.

My husband and I visited Sophy's at Freie Strasse 88 - a supposedly "high end shop" with excellent service minded staff. The sales assistant was an old woman acting as a teenager with perioxide bleeched hair who's language skills left a lot to be desired. Needless to say that we left without purchasing anything in this shop. If you do... More

Shopping street in Basel. Once populated with higher end stores it has now given way to a lot of ticky tacky shops. Typical Swiss rip-off prices and nothing out of the ordinary. Pretty boring.

It's just one store after another. You've seen most of them in every big city in the world. There is nothing wrong, but nothing special, either.
