Interesting history behind the name of the road thanks to our tour guide Manuel of Free Walks tour. It was very busy Saturday when we went. Lots of Black Friday bargains.

This is a pedestrian friendly area that is full of fashion houses, confectionery shops, boutiques and cafes. These shops are also available in most European cities. Being Switzerland, prices were rather high for what was on offer.

Get a feel for Basel old town, music playing and all the same shops as in the mall. Pedestrian friendly. A lot of the shops aren't the most stroller friendly but manageable.

Freie Strasse and streets nearby are populated with some of the fine fashion houses. It is one of the most happening with popular brands. Spira (Freie Strasse 42) focuses on sporty fashion and jeans by Polo Ralph Lauren, Woolrich and J-Brand. Fashion store Kohler (Freie Strasse 84) carries classic brands from Giorgio Armani, Burberry and Valentino. Other destinations are Wolford,... More

An incredible old historic district with a plethora of different types of shops for apparel or confectionaries. There is literally a shop for you regardless of your interests.

Well, you are certainly going end up in this street as it is in the city center just before the real old Altstadt (going down you end up on the square where the Rathaus is).All the brandname shops are there. But then again, who on earth is gonna go shopping in Basel when there are far more interesting things to do? :-)

This is the shopping avenue of Basel. You can find stores like H&M, C&S, Zara, Colors of Benetton, and some I had not heard of like Pfauen, Beldona, Blue Lemon, Boots’sHeels, etc. You can find shops here to fit any and all budgets. There are some beautiful cafes to stop for refreshments along the way. This street was extremely busy... More

Why anyone would want to look round shops in a lovely place like Basel with its old town and other points of interest is beyond me. It's almost inevitable you will find yourself here as it is one of the main streets. To me it was nothing but overpriced shops and restaurants. Up the road is the lovely church and... More
