The gardens were opposite our hotel so I popped in one sunny afternoon for a visit. The hot-house was a real treat, with small tropical birds calling out and swooping between the lush greenery. There are glass houses filled with cactii and another devoted to water-loving plants, with little fish and small reptiles. The gardens are quite small but are... More

Nothing much but worth the visit. All specimens were carefully labeled, and things are very tidy. I would recommend a stroll.

A mini "Kew Gardens" in the heart of Basel... next to the Spalentor impressive medieval gate , and close to a nice park where you can relax and have a picnic. Visit the different green houses, try to spot the turtlesm frogs and exotic birds in the tropical forest ! It's free and it's worth the visit.

A lovely and quiet garden in the middle of Basel. Special rare plants from all over the world. In the big greenhouse there are rare birds and reptiles also.

Every trip to Basel we visit the Botanical Gardens. The outside gardens offer a delightful stroll though a unique variety of plants, including sequoia trees. However the variety of plants in the hot houses are perhaps the most impressive. Separate houses showcase a multitude of plants from different regions in the world. It's a joy to wander around a view... More

The tropical house with a cast-iron staicase to the top of jungle-type trees with tropical birds flying there - fabulous. Bring a book and enjoy the heat!

We stumbled onto this.....one of the best botanical displays we've seen. The water gardens greenhouse was nothing like we'd ever seen before. There was a desert greenhouse and a tropical jungle greenhouse. Looking at the lack of pests, algae, mold etc, told us they new what they were doing. We were in Basel only 2 days and went there twice... More

We walked across street from Hotel Spalentor and visited this marvelous botanical garden. We went into an amazing "tropical haus" to see beautiful exotic plants and there were also exotic-looking birds -- very cool! Also an aquatic plants conservatory with those huge 'Victoria' water lily leaves, also many types of fish in with the aquatic plants. A dry greenhouse filled... More

There were exotic plants from all over the world, as well as wild bee houses! I saw all kinds of orchids, cactae, BIRDS, etc. There were separate glass green houses as well as open-air cases with carnivorous plants--a wonderful place for almost anyone to visit!

Even if you are tired, a stroll in these garden will definitely sooth your soul and give you a rest and peace of mind for a few minutes. It is actually quite small, but very refreshing. There is no need of payments, just get in there.
