This is a fantastic place to visit. We discovered it by accident when we were doing one of the Basel walks. There are loads of interesting and enormous tropical plants to view. In fact it is almost like being in a tropical rain forest - every now and then the air is sprayed with mist which adds to the atmosphere.... More

Located near one of the old city gate, the tropical hot house within the gardens is really worth a visit. Lots of exotic plants from all around the world.

When it's nice and warm weather, the outdoor rock gardens and the ponds, surrounded with big old shadow-giving trees, give you the opportunity to relax on a bench in the middle of the city. In the winter (or cold / rainy days), the main attraction is the tropical greenhouse with: - has the only public Swiss chocolate tree in Basel... More

We tripped from Barr in France to Basel and sopped in here after I head some reviews. It was as most had said... Nice layout to be able to wander through the garden with all the different plants named, then through the differing glass houses with their differing climate plants, again all labelled. Finally, walk through the tropical dome and... More

Basel's botanical garden is in fact rather small, but does feel larger due to its sophisticated layout. Even if you're not that interested in botany, it's a very pleasant place to relax, maybe read a book on a bench - it's right next to the university library!

An unexpected pleasure in the City of Basel. After walking around on a Monday, when museums were closed, we happened upon the free University botanical garden. Lovely tropical plants, greenhouses, ponds, benches for relaxing. An understated oasis.

Very quiet and a nice break to see something a bit different. Loved he big lily pads and the quick tour of the rainforest. We went on a Monday and it was very very quiet. I'd recommend if you have a spare half hour or so

I can recommend the botanical garden to everyone who likes flowers. The rainforest glass house brings you the feeling of standing in the middle of a rainforest f.e. in madagascar! I enjoyed each glas house, also the outer area is well planned, offering many relaxing areas.
