"Don't touch anything in the museum shop! No strollers allowed! (Even though there were tons of strollers upstairs) You must stand outside the entrance of the museum (in the rain) to give your child a snack! (Even though the café is steps away)" this steady stream of DON'Ts were our first experience with this museum. The "interactive" aspects of the... More

Usually noticed for its window display on a corner of the Barfuesserplatz: animated soft toys doing absurd things in a panorama of windows and buildings. You need to be a toy lover to really love this museum but it is quirky enough to charm the random visitor. Apart from dolls and bears, there is a collection of unusual shoes. It... More

Basel’s Spielzeug Welten (Toy World) museum is great if you love teddy bears. But unless you’re a huge fan, there’s really only so long you can stare at floors and floors of teddy bears and dolls. There’s also usually a special exhibit- when I was there, it was on the evolution of the Rhine over time, and compared drawings from... More

you really have to love teddy bears to appreciate this place. They often have great window displays but the interior was quite disappointing. There are a few animated displays but even children can only take so many teddy bears before getting bored. I would have appreciated more interactivity for child visitors. It seems to be designed more for adults than... More

Wife is a doll lover and we have been to the museum a number of times. About 4 stories packed full of exhibits. A very nice selection of old Steiff and other teddy bears, a wide selection of early tin toys, and a very large selection of antique dolls. Also includes an excellent assortment of period doll houses and Gottshalk... More

This museum is rather odd, with its impressive collection of teddy bears and doll houses, one either loves it at first sight, or not. I appreciate the attention to details and amount of work into presenting and keeping all of the bears and dolls, but my young children have not been impressed. They liked it very much to play with... What a treat to see so many stuffed bears, tin toys and astounding miniatures. The museum was mostly empty and we could take our time looking at the exhibits. There is so much to see it becomes overwhelming. It is worth the visit.

what fun, lots and lots of teddy bears, carousels, dolls houses games and toys. A bonus was the pictorial history of the Rheine. Only CHF7 for so much pleasure.

Being a keen bear lover, we especially visited Basel to visit this lovely place. It is a wonderful museum with so many toys. I loved the computer where you could look up all the bear makers and read the whole history about their bears. A must see in Basel
