Understated but great roof top views

Low key cathedral, except for the roof views, over the cloisters and the river. Quite a climb to the two towers, but well worth it. Free entry but towers are 5 Francs.

What a beautiful, mind blowing, breathtaking, iconic brick red structure in Basel Old City. The sun dials were so historic and were still working accurately. The spires were majestic and tall. Really gothic-looking and eery. You have to wander through the passages and find the Rhine River at the back. Stand in the sunshine, admire the Rhine, take a few... More

Thought to have been the site of Celtic worship it is known to have been a religious site since before Christ. The current building was mostly re-constructed after Basel's "Great Earthquake" in the 14th century. Of red sandstone, it is mostly romanesque. Formerly a catholic cathedral (the bishop's seat was in Basel), images were destroyed and the cathedral turned into... More

The beautiful middle-age Cathedral church at the Rhein coast, with red sandstone walls and old "Church" ferry. During Reformation in Switzerland in XVI century, many details of interior very destroyed (e.g. paintings). Close to the main building, you can find the thombs of the city's noblemen

The Basel Munster is a very traditional church and a quiet ambience. The view of the Rhine river and Basel city from the courtyard behind the church is awesome. The paintings on the coloured glass are very intricate and depict life stories of Christ.

Marvellous location high above the Rhine. Set in the corner of Munsterplatz with charming external cloisters and breathtaking interior. I don't know whether one can access the gallery , but its one of the few I have seen that go around the whole of the internal cathedral structure. So areas were closed during our visit but still a memorable visit.... More

This building is a landmark of Basel. It shows beauty, peace and tranquility just like the city. Boosts from amazing views and you can take a boat trip across the river from here.

This is really THE vantage point in Basel set in a beautiful cobbled square with a sense of some peace apart from the busy streets below. . The cloisters are impressive and the view over the Rhine spectacular. Inside the Munster less impressive more of a museum than a living cathedral. Walks starting from the square of varying duration around... More

The Munster is a place in Basel that needs to be visited. There are so many things to do here, but a local's favorites are the back courtyard (if you're lucky, a fantastic cellist will be playing here on Saturdays), as well as taking the cute little ferry down by the river.
