After you've seen the magnificent interior, venture around the side in the cloister to experience the many tombs and sculptures. The exhibit is changed out every so often. The one we say was from June 5 until September 25. Lots of history here. The view is spectacular from the rear of the grounds. There is a fee if you wish... More

The Basler Munster is an amazing building. It went through renovation recently and it is free to visit unless you want to climb the tower. I didn't climb it because the view you have from the backyard of this cathedral is already wonderful. You can see the Rhein river and the other side of the city. Besides if you are... More

Great location with garden to sit out and look over the river and much of Basel. Lots of old tombs and a tower to climb (we didn't). There is a rheinfahren stop at the bottom of the garden. Free entrance unless you climb the tower.

To reach the cathedral from the city requires a small hike, but it's worth it. Apart from its impressive interior, the cathedral is located in a lovely neighbourhood, so one can also wander around less tourist-based streets. Eateries across the cathedral square offer good selection for lunch, a drink, or dinner too.

The Munster is a very complex building with fine carvings on the capitals of the columns inside and two cloisters full of monuments and plaques. What was surprising was the number of choir stalls strewn around the cathedral with fine misericords which to get the best you will need your flash light. There's only a little info on them and... You will see the headstone of Erasmus in the church and can explore every inch of the inside. It is one of the few churches we've visited (we've seen many) where you can explore every part of the church. We did have our own private tour guide which made many of the details come alive. We also toured the "cross-way"... More

Inside the building is very dark. I didn't pauze long there. Climbing the towers is mandatory to do by 2 or more people. I was lucky to find a guy from China waiting for a companion. Any baggage must be left at the shop. The first part of the climb is the most steep and the most narrow. On the... More

Beautifully maintained, crowd free, historical, and in a beautiful setting overlooking the Rhine River. I went back three times, and it would be the first thing I return to see.

Check out the statues on the outside. Several have interesting stories if you can find someone who knows them.
