Of course, the Munster is a must see destination while in Basel, but as European cathedrals go it's really only OK … for instance, even for a fan of Romanesque architecture like myself, this is not at all impressive as Strasbourg's cathedral. The outside is more interesting than the inside and from the plaza in the back there is damn... More

The Cathedral by the River Rhine is beautiful. The Architecture is very awe inspiring. A little scary to climb up and around. The walk on the cobble stoned streets a lot of fun.

The Munster is an old Church made of sandstone. Not only is it magnificent to look at and you can climb it and have a terrific view from up there above all of Basel, but you can also go behind it and have one of the greatest views of the Rhine in all of Basel. Just behind the Munster (locals... More

The church is big and beautiful that you must visit when you have chance to Basel. It's free to enter but it's quite hard to find the toilet there.

One of the best cathedral in Basel, and behind it you will have a really nice view from the rhine river.

A must see when in Basel. High on the hill overlooking the river, the Munster is spectacular and extremely interesting.

We attended a Sunday morning service all in German, but the Protestant hymns and prayers were familiar. Later we went to a lovely concert of organ orchestra and choir of three versions of the Magnificat. A prime experience of our Christmas season trip.

Basel is easily walkable although tourists staying in local hotels get a Mobility ticket which allows travel via tram, buses and local trains. One of the must-see places to visit is this serene cathedral with its interesting spires and statues. Although the Christmas markets have been packed up, the square around Munster cathedral is still pretty even in winter.

From the top of the river behind the church, the view is breathtaking. One spot you can see 3 countries. France to your left and Germany right ahead in the horizon.
