This is walking distance from the river and during summer time, you can find sellers on the pavements like their organic produce, home made cheeses, etc. There are some small outside seating cafés that offer simple ready to eat snacks.

A colourful and striking building, which makes for a great photo. It could not be visited, although that might just be when we were there which was also when the tattoo was. Worth stopping and admiring at as you wander by.

Worth seeing while passing but as you can't go inside the building perhaps not as good as it could be. The buskers in the courtyard were excellent to listen to while looking at the murals.

The Rathaus is a very interesting building to look at. The outside has very ornate features with a wonderful looking clock. If you wish to you can pay to go inside. We did several walks around Basel which are well worth doing and vey clearly marked. The Rathaus is one of many interesting sites that you can view as you... More

Took the tram from our hotel to Markplatz to visit the Rathaus. Amazing architecture! Paintings and sculptures in the inside courtyard are well worth seeing.

What a striking 16th-century building! The wall murals, the embellishments, the architecture is well worth the visit. We went on a Sunday which was perfect because people seem to sleep in and the streets were empty. I don't know if you're normally allowed inside for a tour, because it was Sunday and closed as most things were. But there are... More

We spent one night in Basel just to catch our flight out so we used our free public transportation tickets to go to the old town and wandered by the Rathaus and took some photos. It was not open, but we enjoyed walking around the building.

We enjoyed seeing the Basel Rathaus because it is so colorful and attractive. The red is an amazing color, highlighting the various illustrations which decorate it.

Basel’s town hall is a big red thing. Various pamphlets and brochures (widely available- on site, ate the tourist center, online, in the Basel sightseeing app…) give just the right amount of info for you to appreciate it. You can walk into the courtyard, but there’s not much to see- makes for a nice quick stop.
