An absolute must go! Highly recommended visit. We took some really nice pictures and even had the opportunity to listen to a small acapella concert.

Go in the morning when the market is bustling.Enjoy a coffee in the market place and take in the interesting and colourful Town Hall, so different from our architecture. Well worth going inside, and there is a loo just in the courtyard.

Bright orange/red exterior and pretty patio inside. It is well worth a quick look. Easy to get to by tram or bus.

Absolutely stunning building that you just have to see to believe, kept coming back for another look! The inside courtyard is lovely too. You can't visit Basel and not see it! The square is great too on market day.

When you enter he Marktplatz in center of old town Basel the Rathaus (City Hall) looms over the the marketplace. Although we didn't enter, the structure was impressive. The five hundred year building houses the meetings of the Cantonal Parliament as well as the Cantonal Government of the canton of Basel-Stadt. We were in the Marktplatz on a Friday morning... More

Free booklet (in English) tells the story of the construction of the Rathaus...Town Hall...in 1500. Specifically constructed to impress, the original centre section was extended on either side around 1900......though you wouldn't initially notice the towers on either side had been constructed later. Situated in the Market Square which was full of (mainly food) stalls when we visited (great place... More

We arrived to late to go inside, but spent probably 20-30 minutes just exploring the courtyard, and its fascinating and amusing murals. Definitely worth a visit! Throughout my travels, I've never seen anything quite like it.

First time I came here in Basel, it does not have any famous historic building but the Rathaus was something worth to visit.

This is definitely worth visiting while in Basel. I found the restoration to be little over done. Resulting in a old building that looks newly painted.
