We enjoyed the zoo but had difficulty navigating because the signs were not in English. Multi-lingual signs would have been nice. If I recall, the signs may have been multi-lingual, they just did not include English as one of the languages. The only sign we saw with an Englsih translatiion was about not feeding the animals. The zoo was a... More

Our 3 year olds first zoo visit but it was a joyous trip for all the three of us. The entire park was very easy to manuere with strollers. There were a lot of special attractions like feeding the animals, climbing the pony and going for a walk and the seal show. Kids will love it when the penguins jump... More

It is a well organized Zoo and the children find a suitable environment for their need of understanding. The animals have space enough for their life and they are in a sustainable situation: even if it is clear that they are not free.

Visit the zoo with a friend on a rainy day. The new monkey enclosure is impressive. Got to see the newborn rino. The staff are all very friendly and the zoo is very well kept. Definitely worth the visit!

we visited the zoo by chance, since it was a sunday and nother else was open, we decided to visit the zoo, i was skeptical about it, however, it turned out to be a pretty decent zoo, very enjoyable for young children and animal lovers, there were some construction/maintenance ongoing this summer, but it was minimal and didn't bother us... Basel zoo is a perfectly fine city zoo. The enclosure design is good and there are plenty of good sight lines to the animals. Although we had a good time we just didn't feel there was anything exceptional that justifies how this zoo gets in to many top ten zoos of the world (or Europe) lists.

I love zoos ... all of them, everywhere I've visited. That said, the Zoo Basel is a bit different. It's very family oriented (not unusual), but also visited by individuals and couples. Everyone is friendly (even though we found very few English-speaking folks), and the atmosphere is laid-back and casual. People "stroll" rather than march, and picnics are everywhere to... More

This is a lovely zoo particularly for children. Well laid out and the kids are able to see without having to be lifted up all the time. The primate house is a must and the aquarium also very interesting. A good selection of animals that look happy in their surroundings, except maybe the elephants look a bit sad. To be... More
