I watched our cashier yell at a baby and his dad for picking up a map instead of asking for it (they're free and piled up unattractively next to the pay window). When it was our turn to buy the expensive tickets she treated us with disrespect and condescension reminiscent of Soviet era Russia. Evelyn Müller isn't the only rude... More

The zoo has a wide range of animals and you are able to get really close to many of them. A few highlights from our visit: - The Monkey Building; many species only separated from the audience by large window panes. All the monkeys were playing and having fun, our kids could have spent hours gazing and laughing at them.... More

This zoo is quite large compared to others in Switzerland. It is cool and you see lots of animals (you guessed it...)!

It's a small beautiful zoo, all the animals seem well mantained and actually happy too! I've visited there in the cold and gray winter and even though the zoo has his glitter!

The zoo displayed an impressive number of beautiful exotic animals, our favourite of which were the family of hippopotamus! It was a very clean zoo hidden away between the criss-crossing roads of Basel, with good levels of sound-barriers from the cars and trains. Its always a struggle to balance the wonders of seeing these animals with the morality of knowing... More

We visited the zoo in July 15 and enjoyed the experience very much. It had a more natural feel than some of the horrible cage centric zoos I have seen in the past. A good range of well looked after animals in a fairly open environment. The trees offered a lot of shade on a very hot day. The apes... More

Not the biggest zoo but they seem to pack a lot in to a small area. The apiary was particularly good with lots if different apes etc to view. We enjoyed the feeding of the pelicans and the sealskins. The kids love the climbing nets ironically situated next to the chimps! Great day out.

Beautiful weather, a summery sun shining on the zoo...we travelled 'around the world' just walking from one area to the other. The 5-year old company, quite used to travelling, appreciated so much: the monkeys palace, the rhyno, the reindeer and the amazing (and funny) ostrich family. Some kind of sadness for the adults but connected to the zoo as institution... More

The Zoo in Basel/Switzerland is a world class facility. Be it daily Elephant ride for kids and the 4pm feeding of sea lions as the jump down from a cliff or any kind of bear. The Basel Zoo also works hard to preserve endangered animals. Basel is my home town. as a child I went there many times.

Always a good family visit, and the new canteen is a great improvement. Recommended for families with young children.
