I mainly went as it is included on the Baselcard. The tram stops at the main entrances and I would definitely recommend getting there by tram rather than walking as it is easy to get lost round there. The zoo opens at 8 but the animals don't seem to wake until around 10, at least in winter. I arrived at... More

We had a great day, a full 6hrs wandering the Zoo, which we've not done for sometime. It was during the schools Easter break and the Zoo was very busy but you didn't get that "over crowded feeling" The weather was great and lots of the animals were out enjoying the sun. Like the Sunbear, Hippos, giraffes (even the latest... More

Very nice zoo, getting the tram right to the door made it so easy to get there. Easter weekend but didn't feel too busy. Very impressed with the cleanliness and the staff were helpful. Will be going back next trip for sure :)

The best part about the zoo is the aquarium , with the penguins. Some of the animals didn't really look happy though.

A zoo where animals really seem happy and have some space... Easy to walk around, seems big but is actually manageable size.

A nice zoo right smack in the city. We could see the animals very close. The houses for animals are interesting to view animals during winter. Main attraction is the gorilla, chimpanzee and orang utan enclosure. Lots of room and clever ways to let the animals run. No animals show which is great. Only daily feeding of pelicans and sea... zoo is located beside the train station and costs 18 swiss francs to get in but is free to basel card holders (you also get free tram/buses and is good value as a lot the museums are then half price. The animals are kept in large enclosures and look to be well cared for. There is a lack of information... More

The zoo is very large and diverse. In Bulgaria there is no such beautiful and interesting zoo. I am very impressed.

We spent 4 hours just enjoying the different attractions grouped into different sections according to the continents or ways of life of the resp. animals.

... and parents too. Imagine you have visiting family with kids and the weather is awfully rainy. A day at the zoo can be a very good idea. Without rain it is even better, just you have many more alternatives. This zoo - inside the city of Basel - is not large compared to more famous ones, however it is... More
