I was here in April , and I really enjoy walking around the beautiful characteristic towns all around....in a day you can circumnavigate the all area and take a boat ride to the islands , and still have a great dinner in any of the typical restaurants. But even better stop by any one of the alimentari (grocery store) and... More

We spent several excellent autumn hours here. View is fascinating! The islands, the seagulls, the sun, simple laying on a grass with a cup of tea - everything stayed in memory

As part of our tour, we visited the town of Touro and then the Island of Maggiore. Nice walk, good history of Assisi and his stay on the island, scenic view from top, and "castle" that at this time was closed due to litigation. We had a good lunch at L'Antico Orologio. For an outing on a beautiful day --... More

Beautiful lake, lovely views. We took a boat trip to the island, had a picnic & walked around the island which was a nice half day out. (Thus is a lovely area of Italy - just choose your accommodation carefully as ours was awful...see reviews).

Visit the Islands and take trip on the ferries. Liked Hannibal history and great cafes in Passiggiamo

Our home base is Lucignano and we wanted to visit Castiglione del Largo Umbria. Only half hour drive from our base and very glad we decided to go. It's not commercialized and very little tourists and no big tourist buses. No problem with the parking and easy walk to the historical centre. The Lago di Trasimeno is beautiful from the... More

The lake is beautiful, but don't miss a visit to Castigione del Lago, a medieval town up the hill. Very cute, with good restaurants, lots of little shops, friendly people. Free parking at the foot of the steps to the gate into town. Going up the little road, after entering the gate, there's a shop on the left that sells... More

We are an American couple who have lived in this area for several years. We have traveled all over Italy and when we decided on a place to live we chose this lake area. We moved here on our twentieth trip to Italy! We made the right decision. Umbria has the beauty of Tuscany without the high prices. The food... More

Trasimeno/Castiglione del Lago worth a visit. We also visited ristorantesottoventopg.com which even with language barriers was a good experience, not cheap but fresh and excellent service. I have food intolerances and they custom made a menu for me on the spot. The lake is popular for the island trips to the monastery. I was recovering from a boat trip so... More

Very scenic, but main island bit disappointing, lacked history but cost to get there on ferry was reasonable. Maybe a place more suited for locals to spend a full day playing sports.
