Not one of the more popular Italian lakes, but we enjoyed the visit and both our campsite and the local town were very attractive

We drove to Passignano sul Trasimeno - it was quiet. The lake has an island which you can visit but we did not. Probably you could spend a couple of hours there having a coffee or visiting one of the restaurants but really the town had little going for it and the lake was just that - a big lake!

The Trasimeno region is a wonderful place to stay, the location is perfect to visit effortlessly a lot of destinations, both locally and in the near Tuscany. You will see incredible nature, medieval towns on every hill crown it like the gems of a jewel. Local food is amazing and don't miss the chance to taste the local wine also.

While Lago Trasmeno does not have the exotic mountains surrounding it like Lago di Como or some of the other northern Italian lakes, it has it own charm and generally lacks the crowds of foreign tourists. Gorgeous lake. We arrived there (Passignano) on May 1, a holiday and enjoyed strolling the boardwalk with all the locals out for the day. Trip to island of Maggiore is also nice, but most things closed when we were there. Only one restuarant and can't tour fort.

A calm view to enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this beautiful Italian haven. The weather was exceptional on the day we visited which added to the scenery perfectly.

We have a home about 45 minutes from the lake and its a wonderful day out. Great for children is the boat trip to the island, followed by an ice cream. As with all these places, best when the sun is out.
