Visited the basilica recently. We found the whole experience very interesting and informative. Well worth a visit.

We had been looking forward to visiting Assisi for years; however, the total lack of any kind of spiritual atmosphere and the sense of the whole operation being a money-making scam, made us cut our visit short. Poor St Francis must be spinning so fast in his tomb. The public lavatories for the pilgrims/tourists are a disgrace!

Very interesting. It is a sad example of the times... saw much more military and police presence than prior years.

We parked at one end of the village to visit Santa Clara and had to cross the village on foot to San Francesco. We were lucky as we had the opportunity to visit the village of Assisi. The Basilica of San Francesco is a unique church with multiple levels, the upper and lower churches. I strongly recommend the visit and... More

We visited the basilica three times over three days. The first two days were public holidays and it was packed, mainly with pilgrims. The third day there was barely a soul and quite a different experience. The frescoes are very beautiful; more simple than other churches in Italy.

Wish we had more time here. The city of Assisi is truly serene. Peace surrounds you and there is a quietness about this place, pure and surreal. My family and I took a day trip on a train here. It was beautiful. The Basilicas of St. Francis and St. Clare were beautiful. Every home and building is lovely, detailed and... More

The most beautiful for me is the tomb. It is underground of the low basilica. It is beautiful because the tomb of St. Francis is in the middle and his tomb is surrounded by the tombs if his companions, his best friends. Live together as friends and they lied died together at the same place. A very sacred and holy... More

Its a very beautiful basilica, with a lot of history and significance if you're a catholic person. Assisi is a lovely place.

Stunning viewing the Basilica and town on the hillside as you approach. Watch your speed limit as there are speed cameras all along the way. No dogs allowed inside for those traveling with pets. Entrance to the Basilica is free. Amazing frescoes in both lower and upper basilicas. Worth visiting!

We went to the Basilica first thing in the morning 08.00 so had the place without tourists so we're able to soak up the wonderful atmosphere. The views from the ramparts outside are also stupendous.
