My elderly mother and I visited Assisi in January. We took the train from Rome and our tour guide picked us up at the station to bring us up to Assisi. Our tour started at the Basilica di Santa Chiara. If we didn't have our guide we would have been guessing and my mom probably wouldn't have seen as much... More

Santa Chiara is the place to visit in Assisi: it retains its mystery and spirituality. It has extraordinary architecture and very high quality artworks: the crucifix from San Damiano is worth the visit alone. It is a beautiful and stimulating building. The restored tomb of Santa Chiara in the crypt, however, we found to be tasteless and overdone. It is... More

Here you can pray in the front of the crucifix which the Lord spoke to St. Francis. Come in the early morning so you may find some quiet moments to pray when no tourists around. You will not disappointed!

Lovely Church! The relics were amazing and very well kept. The location was clean and the interior of the Basilica was well kept.

This early Gothic church with Romanesque characteristics was built between1257-65 to house the remains of Saint Clare and is located in the small town of Assisi in the Umbrian valley in central Italy. Saint Clare (1193-1253) was a friend and protege of Saint Francis of Assisi and founder of the Order of Poor Ladies. She was canonized quickly in1256 and... More

at the other end of the town of Assisi is the church of St Clare. Not as immense as the Franciscan basilica but pretty large. Worth the walk. Holds the tomb of Clare,a contemporary of St Francis. .

We were walking through Assisi and came about this church however it was closed for the lunch hour(s)! So, we grabbed a couple of panini's in the piazza and did as the local.....just sat an enjoyed our lunch and the extraordinary view from the hilltop. Couldn't be any better. Relax and enjoy yourself and your surroundings.

My family absolutely loved meditating on the Holy Rosary before daily Mass at Santa Chiara. We could feel the presence of the saint; it was an amazing experience.

What's there not to like in the holiness and serenity of Assisi? This is a beautiful cathedral with an interesting reliquary, terrific views, and an expansive piazza.
