You'll have to look up Gianni when you visit Tuscany. A local in Siena, Geologist and Historian...and an absolute gentleman as well! Even our 3 kids, ages 10, 13, 16, were awed by his knowledge and charmed by his easy nature. We had possibly the best day in our 2 weeks in Italy and will certainly look him up again... More

Ciao Mark! As soon as we met I had the good vibes from you and your wife. The day was a little rainy but I felt it was not a problem for you. Very much "easy going". The good vibes were confirmed as the day went on. It's not difficult to guide people like you: you all were so avid... More

When we decided to include Tuscany in our itinerary for our trip to Italy, I did some research on private walking tours through Tuscany. We had learned from previous trips that having a private tour guide truly maximized the enjoyment of the experience for us. I found Walk About Tuscany and Gianni Stanghellini online and loved his description of the... More

Ciao Roz, I am amazed by your great review. I must have said this more times but when I am guiding I really feel like the ambassador of my homeland. It is such a pride to represent my country and my country's traditions so I really hope I did it well. Hopefully I will see you again on another walking... More

We spent two days with Gianni five years ago and when we decide to go back to Italy this year, my husband and I knew we wanted to spend another day with him. He is an excellent guide, extremely knowledgeable about Tuscany and speaks perfect English!! During this trip, we spent the day walking through the countryside, exploring Pienza and... More

Ciao Tish, it is always a pleasure to host guests but when the guests are repeating guests this must mean "a successful first visit". I am happy you loved the olive mill and the walk that we did this time. In Italian we say "non c'è due senza tre" that means when you have done something two times a third... More

We started in Siena and we thought this is our favorite spot! Such a charming city and the food and wine was so good! Needless to say every city had it's own charm and the country side was beautiful throughout the guided walking tour! Our guide was Ginni Stanghellini. He did a wonderful job of setting up hotel acccomadations, dining... More

Dear RuthK, I have to admit it; this time weather really cooperated. Apart from that the tour we had together was pleasant and rich of talk on the trail, good food, beautiful landscapes. Sometimes I stop for a moment and I think how lucky I am to do this kind of work. I hope to see you soon in a... More

We spent one day of our week in Tuscany on a walk with Gianni. He was pleasant, entertaining, and so knowledgeable. We had many questions on topics ranging from Italian government and politics to local botany, and he was able to explain it all! We visited a delightful family-owned winery on our walk, at which we were made to feel... More

Dear Scottb, I think we both agree that walking is the perfect pace for visiting a place. Tuscany, moreover, needs a slow pace to be savored. It takes time to talk to the Chianti wine farmers. It takes time to speak to the locals. But then in the end the memory will stay with you for a lifetime. 'till our... More

I arranged for a September Chianti walk with Gianni. He picked up my friend and me at our hotel in Siena. We drove a short distance into the Chianti area where we would begin our walk. We were treated to scenic Tuscan countryside, beautiful views and lovely vineyards before reaching our castle/winery destination. We visited the castle/winery gardens and enjoyed... More

My sister and I had a wonderful guided tour with Gianni, filled with good accommodation, wonderful meals, wine tastings and beautiful countryside. We loved the towns and cities visited (as well as the shopping!). Gianni was not only knowledgeable, but by the end of our tour it was with sadness that we said our good byes as it felt that... We had a great day walk with Gianni out of Monteriggioni along the Francigena finishing up with a wonderful late lunch at a farm serving delicious local meats, cheeses, olives and wine. Thanks Gianni.

What a wonderful time we had in Tuscany - all made possible by Gianni. Gianni was knowledgeable, informative, jovial and so easy to be with. We walked through beautiful countryside and on the way Gianni gave us an historical overview of the area, pointed out fauna and flora. He knew all the back roads, through fields of wheat and vineyards... More
