This church really stands out. Instead of dozens of sculptures, it is richly frescoed. The frescoes depict biblical stories. If you're familiar with the Good Book, you should be able to identify them all. The frescoes are mostly well preseverd and beautifully coloured. When we visited, the church was quite empty, so we really were able to enjoy the art.... More

San Gimignano is a truly beautiful town - one of the highlights of Tuscany that will capture your imagination - but it does get busy! So to escape at least some of the coach tours, you could easily spend a peaceful hour in the town's Collegiata. It's sort of a small version of Siena's awesome Duomo - the ceiling and... More

Going inside is worth it. The walls are covered in beautiful frescos, All around the whole ceiling was painted in a gorgeous blue with stars. The ceiling was a series of vaults and arches- totally spectacular. More

The Duomo (cathedral) of San Gimignano is a beautiful church, but if you compare it with the stunning beauty of the whole town, it's nothing special. The same could be said if it's compared with other Tuscan cathedrals, like Firenze, Siena, or Orvieto. We went there early in the morning, 8.30, and as there was a mass being celebrated, we... More

Walked right into this wonderful building and enjoyed the great art and architecture. I am concerned about the turnstiles at the side entrance and exits. They were not in use (no fee/no lines), but they imply that this place could get crazy "in season". Also, the Grosse Torre was closed for nondescript "maintenance" in late November 2011. More

From the outside this church looks like it will be rather plain inside so we were literally shocked when we walked inside and the saw the amazing frescoes and beautiful marbles. My partner's jaw literally dropped when he walked inside and saw the beauty of the interior. The altar area is gorgeous and the little chapels are so beautiful. If... More

it's a small town by today's standard and the church with its magnificent interior has a very special charm. We visited it after The more famous Duomos in Florence and Siena, but still were quite impressed. Make sure to see Fina.s chapel and then walk to her house located within 5 min walk More
